TOP O' THE MORNIN'

YIKES: What Was That Tim Walz Just Called Kamala Harris at MI Event?

I think maybe then he realized what he said because he seemed to swallow hard after that and try to move on, but there was no taking it back.

Quiet Part Out Loud? ABC Debate Co-Moderator Makes Eye-Opening Admission on Why They Fact-Checked Trump

That Davis has made this admission will prompt no outcry from the press, no calls for "reform" among the elite pundit class in how debates are planned and managed, and no soul-searching from the higher-ups at ABC News/Disney, one of which just so happens to be close friends with Harris, even introducing her to the man who would become her husband, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff.

Putin's War, Week 133. Turmoil in Kursk and Long-Range Strikes Into Russia Possible

If the regime is afraid of "escalation," I can't imagine why it would want to be in the position of playing LBJ in the White House basement picking targets for the USAF to hit in North Vietnam.

WHAT'S ON TAP?

Today on Capitol Hill...

No hearings or meetings set for Friday on the Hill. The big question swirling is how Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) will navigate the need to get a spending bill passed and whether pairing it with the SAVE Act (requiring proof of citizenship to register to vote) will present an obstacle to that.

On the Senate side, per Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), an interim report on the bipartisan investigation into J13 is imminent — and will shock and appall the American people.

White House What's Up

President Joe Biden will deliver remarks at a Friday brunch celebrating Black Excellence. Later in the day, he hosts a bilateral meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer before heading off to Wilmington, Delaware, for the weekend.

The Homestretch

Vice President Kamala Harris is traveling back to Pennsylvania Friday, with stops in Johnstown and Wilkes-Barre. Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff will attend campaign events in Oxford, Mississippi, and The Villages, Florida.

Fresh off calling the Top of the Ticket a rather unkind name (albeit unintentionally), Harris running mate Tim Walz will be heading to Lansing, Michigan, and then Wausau, Wisconsin, for campaign events, then on to the University of Wisconsin-Superior and Duluth, Minnesota, on Saturday.

Former President Donald Trump is set to hold a 12:00 p.m. Eastern press conference from his Rancho Palos Verdes golf course. Then he'll head north to the Bay Area, where he'll attend a fundraiser hosted by relatives of California's First Lady, Jennifer Seibel Newsom. He will hold a rally in Las Vegas, Nevada, Friday evening.

Full Court Press...

Singer Justin Timberlake is expected to appear in court in Sag Harbor Village, New York, on Friday to accept a plea deal in his DWI case

On Thursday, Trump lost his bid to have the remaining gag order placed on him by Judge Juan Merchan in relation to the Manhattan criminal case overturned by New York's highest court. Will likely write a bit more on this later, but the Second Circuit Court of Appeals also denied Trump's request for an emergency stay of the Manhattan case while the issue of whether it should be removed to federal court is litigated. On the other hand, he notched a win in Georgia, as Judge Scott McAfee tossed out three more counts against two of his co-defendants in the election interference case — two of which apply to Trump as well.

MORNING MUSING

It's Friday the 13th (hide yo wife, hide yo kids). I'm certain I've written about this before, but will simply note that this is, in fact, a lucky day for my family: My parents were married on a Friday the 13th (July 13, 1956). They had a loving marriage and lived happily together for 63-and-a-half years before my Dad passed in January 2020. I know my Mom misses him dearly. We all do. In similar fashion, my darling daughter arrived (nearly six weeks early) on the Ides of March. So, whenever I encounter one of these superstitiously unlucky days, I make a point to thank my lucky stars (and the Good Lord) for being blessed with the amazing family I have.
