Sometimes, a news item comes along that just tickles the old funny bone, and this is one of those; it seems some relatives of the wife of California's governor, the impeccably coiffed Gavin Newsom, are planning to host a gala fundraiser in the San Francisco Bay Area.
A billionaire relative of California Gov. Gavin Newsom's wife is hosting a major fundraiser for former President Trump in California on Friday, according to reports.
Tom and Stacey Siebel are hosting a fundraiser in the Bay Area community of Woodside for Trump on Friday afternoon. Tom Siebel, a billionaire software developer and CEO of his own enterprise AI software company, C3.ai, is a second cousin once removed of Jennifer Siebel Newsom, the wife of Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom, the Los Angeles Times reported.Tom Siebel has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to Trump’s 2024 campaign and PACs supporting the Republican nominee, according to the Times and the San Francisco Gate.
Boy, I bet the next Thanksgiving dinner at the Newsom family home is going to be a real barrel of laughs.
OK, so the relation in question is a second cousin, once removed. That's a relation, but not really a close relation, so maybe it's not quite as funny as it seems on the surface. And honestly, who hasn't disagreed with a relative at one point or another? I have some 30-odd cousins - counting only my first cousins, not the seconds and the removeds - and if I were to be embarrassed by everything any of them did--one in particular (he's adopted!)--then I would be walking around wearing a permanent blush that starts at my navel and goes all the way up.
But I'm not the governor of California. The extreme "progressive" governor of deep-blue California. The governor whose wife's family is holding a huge fundraiser for Donald Trump. And that's what makes this entertaining. It would be amusing to be a fly on the wall in the Newsom household following this revelation, especially since this is piling onto an increasing list of the impeccably coiffed governor's woes.

Not least of those woes is Newsom's wife's parents fleeing the once-and-former Golden State - for Ron DeSantis's Florida. That has to be unsettling; you can ignore your cousin's peccadillos, especially when they are in the misty and distant environs of second and third cousins. But we can't really disavow our parents.
It's worth a bet that Tom and Stacey Siebel are no longer on Gavin and Jennifer Newsom's Christmas card list.
