Watch: 'TN Three' Rep. Gloria Johnson Exploits Race Angle as 15 Minutes of Fame Winds Down

As RedState readers will recall, Tennessee Democratic state Rep. Gloria Johnson was spared from expulsion by one vote in the aftermath of her role in the “transurrection” that took place at the state capitol two weeks ago.

Two other Democratic state legislators, Justin Pearson and Justin Jones, weren’t as lucky though, and were expelled by the Tennessee House over their use of a bullhorn and other actions that whipped up the mob in attendance three days after 28-year-old transgender person Audrey Hale committed a mass shooting at a privately-owned Nashville Christian elementary school, murdering six including three nine-year-old children

Not surprisingly, the so-called “Tennessee Three” are currently in the midst of enjoying their fifteen minutes of fame, with the mainstream media playing up the racial component in all this to the highest hilt (both Justins are black, Johnson is white).

The prevailing wisdom in media/Democrat circles is that both Pearson and Jones were expelled on the basis of their color, something Johnson herself incredibly suggested as weird show of thanks shortly after some Republicans decided to give her a break considering she didn’t use the bullhorn and was mostly silent during the transurrection that the other two members ginned up from the TN House “well.”

But apparently, Johnson realizes that her moment in the spotlight is starting to wind down, which I suspect is why she went this route during a Tuesday interview on CNN:

It’s not the first time Johnson has brought up the comments made by GOP state Rep. Paul Sherrell, which were made in late February in response to the debate on a proposed amendment to a bill that would make firing squad executions legal in the state:

In expressing his support for the amendment, Sherrell said “Could I put an amendment on that it would include hanging by a tree, also?”

There was no response at the time to Sherrell’s comments, but in a statement reported by NewsChannel5, Gloria Sweet-Love, president of the Tennessee State Conference of the NAACP, said Sherrell’s comments were evocative of lynchings.

“He is celebrating a particular form of execution used against African Americans in Tennessee and across the nation, including innocent and wrongfully convicted persons,” Sweet-Love said.

Sherrell later apologized, saying that “My exaggerated comments were intended to convey my belief that for the cruelest and most heinous crimes, a just society requires the death penalty in kind” and that “My intention was to express my support of families who often wait decades for justice.”

In Johnson’s view, Sherrell’s suggestion is further proof of the alleged racism Johnson says she sees in the TN House all the time. But if there were racist intentions behind Johnson’s suggestion, why would he have brought it up considering there were black lawmakers present at the time he raised the question? I ask that sincerely because most racists are cowards and say racist things in the shadows because they’re too chicken to say them in front of a black person.

Admittedly, what Sherrell suggested was culturally insensitive and obviously historically ignorant, but whether or not his intention was to be racist, what does what he said have anything at all to do with what happened with the Tennessee Three?

Answer? Nothing. As numerous reports have indicated, Johnson’s job was saved – again, by a mere one vote – because she wasn’t an active participant in what Jones and Pearson were doing beyond standing next to them in a show of support. Had she picked up a bullhorn, she would have gotten the boot, too.

But because the media and Democrats love stirring up the outrage mobs and stoking racial flames for political gain, here we are, with a woman who has essentially become a Useful Idiot for the woke leftist cause standing shoulder to shoulder with a fraudster and an openly racist legislator because narratives and what not.

Simply put, Gloria Johnson knows which side to butter the bread on, and how much sugar to put in the tea. Which is why she’s gonna keep butterin’/sugarin’ it – and the agenda-driven “reporters” who “interview” her – up, right up until that 15 minutes of fame runs out.
