As we reported, Dr. Anthony Fauci invoked the Fifth Amendment multiple times during his appearance before Congress on Wednesday.
But Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) made him look ridiculous for doing so when he walked him through a series of innocuous questions. For each question, Fauci invoked the Fifth, from what day of the week it was to what color the carpet on the floor was.
Sen. Hawley is asking Dr. Fauci ridiculous questions to make him continue his tactic of only pleading the fifth.

Then Hawley, who went to Yale Law School and is the former Missouri Attorney General, let loose on Fauci, shooting down his claim, saying he didn't have a right to invoke the Fifth because he had been pardoned, so he could not "stand upon the privilege." Hawley snarked that Fauci knew it, and Fauci's lawyer, "shifting nervously in his chair," knew it too.
"This isn't about the law," Hawley continued. "This is about contempt. Contempt for this body and contempt for the American people."
Hawley thought he knew why Fauci wasn't willing to answer questions, accusing him of doing "all kinds of terrible things" and becoming rich in the process. "You got rich while people were dying."
Hawley also alleged Fauci was using federal employees to solicit cash prizes for himself. Fauci wouldn't answer that one either.
But at the end of the day, Hawley slammed Fauci, saying it was about a "power trip."
“You've done more to harm science than anybody in my lifetime. And I hope you'll go home and write that in your diary.”

He called him a narcissist, a megalomaniac, and a liar, alleging he'd lied to the American people and to Congress.
Fauci wanted to think of himself as the "most famous scientist in the world," Hawley said.
“You've done more to harm science than anybody in my lifetime. And I hope you'll go home and write that in your diary," he ended, finishing Fauci off.
This was, in some ways, the most cutting blow for Fauci, the guy who seemed obsessed with people loving him. He's stuck there, unable to answer, as he's pounded over how horrible he is, with things being laid out before the world. You have to know that had to be just eating away at him. Check that look he has at about 38 seconds into the clip.

But you know the committee members will likely also be looking into their legal options as well to pursue him for his failure to testify. Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) in particular isn't likely to let this go by. So I think it's likely Fauci can expect more coming his way.
