Whether you're a political junkie or just a casual observer of political goings on, sometimes it feels like the worst offenders in government, whether they be elected officials or those serving in an administrative or cabinet role, can get away with just about anything.
I'm not just talking about egregious wrongdoing of the criminal variety, either. I'm also talking about when you've got a genuinely bad-faith actor who is pulling an epic con on the people by routinely telling them one thing about this country (or their policies) when the opposite is true.
It used to frustrate me a lot during the Obama administration how often then-President Barack Obama got away with lying to the public. The Obamacare whoppers come to mind, but there were many others. He did it routinely, sometimes multiple times a day, and the vast majority of times he did it, the mainstream media would either run with it without question or would criticize Republicans for noticing it - and then the media would proceed to twist themselves into pretzels, making excuses for the lie.

It pleases me to no end that Barack Obama and his massive ego do not appear to hold the sway over the Democrat Party - and the MSM - that they once did. Though the reason for that has nothing to do with the fact that he was one of the worst presidents in modern history, that his word isn't taken as the gospel truth anymore by the Democrat faithful and their press allies helps me to sleep a little better at night.
Dr. Tony Fauci is another whose destructive lies and Mount Saint Helens-sized ego during the COVID-19 pandemic hurt this country in ways that are still being uncovered and analyzed. RedState was at the forefront of exposing him in real time during the combined three COVID years he served under President Trump and then President Biden.

Dr. Fauci's Testimony to Rand Paul on 'Gain-of-Function' Research Was Filled With, Well, Lies
It was always obvious that Fauci was an egomaniac who enjoyed the Democrat/media adulation much in the same way then-NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) basked in the glow of fawning press coverage and Democrat fangirling until the walls came tumbling down thanks to the sexual harassment scandal that ultimately had the so-called "Luv Guv" resigning in disgrace.
But the Fauci diaries have shone an even brighter spotlight on what this type of obsessive hero-worship and mindless idolization of very powerful people can do to a person when left unchecked. It can make one feel invincible and seemingly "prove" they are "right" (in their view) about everything - and the bonus for the ones like Fauci is that the corporate media will eat it right out of their hands.

Dr. Fauci's own diary, in his own words, shows he knew the lab leak theory was credible from the very first weeks of the pandemic. 10 of 12 scientists on his call believed deliberate insertion was possible. He wrote that the wet market was never the real source. Then he spent the next 2 years telling the American people the opposite and smearing anyone who disagreed as a “conspiracy theorist.” That is the definition of a cover-up.
On Wednesday, under subpoena, Fauci finally has to answer for it.
