Hot Takes: Dr. Anthony Fauci's Diary and the Repugnance of Clout Chasing

On Wednesday, July 29, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) will take testimony from former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIH) Dr. Anthony Fauci about documents related to the COVID pandemic, some of which Fauci worked to have destroyed. The prospect that Fauci lied under oath on multiple occasions will also be a topic of discussion.

My committee combed through millions of COVID documents, and what did we find?

Anthony Fauci destroyed records. He told others to delete emails. And then he told them to delete them from deleted files.

He and his allies privately doubted the "implausible" line on a lab leak while publicly attacking anyone who raised it.

And he never took responsibility for funding dangerous research in China.

Next week, Dr. Fauci goes under oath in front of my committee, and he’s going to answer for everything we’ve found.

One of the documents unearthed was Fauci's personal diary. So, on Sunday, Paul decided to drop the entire unredacted record on X for all to see, read, and dissect. Many journalists (mostly right-of-center) and commentators are digesting the information, and hoo boy, what it reveals.

It is clear: Paul is loaded for bear.

This is a direct quote from one of Dr. Anthony Fauci’s newly released emails.

While publicly posturing as a champion of science, he was privately directing his staff to destroy federal records.

This is a blatant violation, a betrayal of the public trust, and further proof that Fauci engaged in a coverup from the very beginning of the pandemic.

I’m going to ask him about this when he goes under oath this Wednesday.

As my colleague Kyle Becker detailed, while Americans died from COVID or were catastrophically injured from the treatments pushed by Fauci that he knew were ineffective, Fauci was fixated on his own fame and how much proximity he could get to the spotlight.

Paul brutally makes note of this.

Grabien founder Tom Elliot detailed this nauseating portion of an entry from 2020, at the beginning of Fauci's fame.

Anthony Fauci, writing in his diary in March 2020, clearly loving life:

"Big front page article abut me appeared in the Washington Post. Very flattering. The situation with my national and international fame is explosive and really unimaginable. It is not hyoperbole [sic] to say that today I am the most famous and talked about person in the country and one of the most recognizable peson [sic] in the world.

"Countless profiles on me in multiple media. I cannot even read all the things that are written abuyt me since I am so busy….seriously. POTUS seems to be enamored of me even though I am taking the spotlight away from him. We are developing a very unique and interesting relationship. The entire secret service corps is coming over to me and chatting. They let me into the first gate without even checking ID."

Counterlawfare Institute founder Hans Mahncke made note of the lies Fauci documented about the actual death tolls, while he booked media appearances and commented on his newfound fame.

Fauci's diary entry for May 21, 2020 is one of the most grotesque documents you will ever read. It opens with the mounting Covid death toll and people dying across the country, then abruptly pivots into an extended exercise in self-congratulation about his newfound fame. How was someone so profoundly narcissistic ever allowed to accumulate so much power and rise so high? Completely unreal.

For Fauci, shutting down schools and entire states was all in a day's work. Kanekoa The Great homed in on the entry in 2020, where Fauci's brags about convincing NY Mayor Bill de Blasio and CA Gov. Gavin Newsom to put their states on lockdown. Of course, in 2022, Fauci changed that story, claiming that he did not recommend lockdowns.

Independent journalist Adam Housley recalled that tortuous time.

6 years, 4 months, and 7 days ago, we were shut down in California because of COVID. At the time, I was reporting here on X that it was lab-altered from impeccable sources I knew. I was shadowbanned and attacked for it. Thanks to @elonmusk, many of us independent journalists now have freedom again. Fauci should be prosecuted, and those who joined him as well.

As do I, and my other RedState colleagues. Not just the Madness of King Gavin and other blue state governors in locking down the citizens and trampling all over their civil liberties, but because journalists, researchers, anyone who dared to write, speak the truth, or ask questions were doxed, shadow-banned, and out-and-out targeted as if we were criminals.

While many lost their careers and livelihoods, Fauci collected fat paychecks from his lies, duplicity, and clout chasing.

One month after Fauci supported guidelines for schools that maintained social distancing and masking. One month after he criticized red states for lifting mask mandates and facilitating business openings.

Independent Institute historian Phil Magness highlighted Fauci's disdain for Dr. Jay Bhattacharya (now NIH Director) and his Great Barrington Declaration, as well as Dr. Scott Atlas. Fauci even tried to recruit President Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner to get Atlas removed from the COVID Task Force.

These are just a sampling of some of the most glaring and horrendous entries. Thus far, very few from the legacy media have even acknowledged the existence of Paul's oppo drop, let alone provided any coverage.

Brownstone Institute President Jeffrey A. Tucker said it well.

The Fauci diaries fit into a special category: news that is not supposed to be news, therefore not news. No one expected this. Not one soul in the reporter gild. They are all 100% in shock today and dealing with denial. Their editors don't want to acknowledge its existence. They are trying to make it go away. @SenRandPaul

This news week already promises to be insane. This Wednesday's hearing with Paul confronting Fauci on these revealed documents can only take it even further into the stratosphere.

Editor’s Note: The 2026 Midterms will determine the fate of President Trump’s America First agenda. Republicans must maintain control of both chambers of Congress.
