I admit, I had never written about the WNBA (and never wanted to) until recently, when Indiana Fever shooting guard Sophie Cunningham made the finger point seen around the world and then became the subject of leftist hate because she dared to endorse protecting girls and women from men playing in their leagues.
The entire thing has become a three-ring circus, and on Saturday, the controversy erupted even further as Chicago Sky player DiJonai Carrington absolutely leveled Cunningham as she went in for a lay-up. It wasn’t basketball, it wasn’t even football, it was mixed martial arts.

That’s some dirty pool, and an enraged Cunningham quickly got in Carrington’s face. Referees deemed that DiJonai had committed a Flagrant 2 foul — meaning it was “unnecessary and excessive" — and kicked her off the court, as they should have.
If the league had any sense, they’d suspend her for multiple games, but they have rarely shown any.
It’s getting dangerous out there, folks. It reminds me of this all-timer when Boston Celtics forward Kevin McHale clotheslined LA Laker Kurt Rambis in the 1984 NBA Finals:

What’s almost worse than Carrington’s cheap-shot hit, however, was her reaction afterwards:
Chicago Sky player DiJonai Carrington sent a post on Threads that read "white privilege" and tagged the Indiana Fever after she was ejected from Saturday's game for smacking Sophie Cunningham in the face.
Carrington has previously garnered controversy for poking Cunningham's teammate Caitlin Clark in the eye during the 2024 playoffs, and making controversial statements in the media.

OutKick founder Clay Travis, who as I’ve written in several stories has been exposing the league’s hypocrisy over male players with his funny but brilliant stunts, was disgusted:

When I wrote at the top of this article that I had never envisioned writing about the WNBA, it’s not because I’m a misogynist or hate women’s sports — there are many that I enjoy watching, especially come Olympics time. But the WNBA has always seemed like a drama swamp of players whining that they’re being undervalued when they’re actually making good money for bouncing a ball.
