The entire concept of "sanctuary" jurisdictions is stupid on its face. It's centered on the notion that cities and states should give not only shelter, but outright protection to people who are in the United States illegally. They are, in effect, protecting criminals; even if their only crime was crossing the border, these people have broken the law. It is the job of federal immigration authorities to find these people and send them back, and the sanctuary cities and states are openly interfering with that.
Sometimes a particular criminal is released with horrible results. Case in point: An illegal alien from Venezuela, calling himself Marcos Iriarte-Valdez and whose real name is apparently Marcos Eduardo Iriarte Valdezusper, is now under arrest for stabbing a California man to death in front of his own home.
Here's the thing: Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) had issued a detainer on Valdezusper. The illegal alien was released anyway, with no regard to a legal federal detainer. Now a man is dead. Border Czar Tom Homan appeared on the Fox News morning show, Fox & Friends, and filled in host Brian Kilmeade on how all that played out.
.@RealTomHoman: What really upset me was the response from the governor's office was that, well, ICE "should be doing their job." WE DID OUR JOB! We located this person in their facility. We issued a detainer asking them to notify us before they released him. https://t.co/IHHCrJmVae pic.twitter.com/61jaI9m8Rj

Mr. Homan said:
Look, there is no reason for it. The bottom line is, you're right, it's just politics. It's a sanctuary jurisdiction. They know, for over a decade, I can't think of the hundreds of cases like this (that) have happened. It's just one case after another after another. We'll talk about this today and tomorrow. Then we'll move on. Then next week there will be another one in some other place, in another sanctuary state. And what really upset me, the response from the Governor's office, was that ICE had billions of dollars; they should be doing their job. We did our job. We located this person in their facility. We did an investigation, found out he is illegally in the United States, he has a criminal history, he is deportable, so we issued a detainer, asking them to notify us before they release him. Now, I don't care about sanctuary policies, obviously: "we can't honor detainers, we don't think they're legal." There's nothing illegal; there's nothing against a sanctuary law in California for a deputy to just pick the phone up and say, "Hey, this guy's being released in an hour." You don't have to hold him one minute longer than you would normally hold him. Just call us before you release him! It's common sense. Now this person's dead because Governor Newsom and the State of California put politics, hatred of President Trump, over public safety.
Mr. Homan is correct. These idiotic policies are intended to interfere with immigration enforcement. Nobody, we might note, on the Left made a peep during the Obama administration, when ICE was doing precisely the same job it is doing today. Remember, this is the same Thomas Homan who, in 2015, was awarded a Presidential Rank Award for Distinguished Service by President Barack Obama for doing much the same work he is doing now, for President Trump. Then he was awarded; now he is being bitterly opposed in his work and the work of those he commands.
He's right; there's no common sense in any of this. But, as has been apparent since 2016, if President Trump found a cure for cancer tomorrow, Democrats would scream bloody murder about how many oncologists he has put out of work.
So, Governor Gavin Newsom and all the good line-toeing lefties in California can point to their sanctuary policies and crow about their compassion. And now, because of that phony compassion, a man is dead who needn't be. And it will happen again. And again.
Editor’s Note: We voted for mass deportations, not mass amnesty. Help us continue to fight back against those trying to go against the will of the American people.
