It's a fine state of affairs when a nut in a Chairman Mao cosplay getup can espouse communist principles to a group of college-age Democrats and get a big round of applause, but here we are; Hasan Piker, a "democratic socialist" (communist) agitator, did just that in a recent speech to the College Democrats of America. Now, to be sure, Piker has the same First Amendment rights as anyone, no matter how ridiculous his statements are. What's mildly alarming is that anyone is listening to him.
And yet, here are these young skulls full of mush, listening to a commie in a Mao jacket.

Piker rants:
No more to Trumpism. But no more to the Democrats who compromise, who conciliate, and who betray us. (Applause) No more to the fascist reactionaries, but no more to the Democrats who will collaborate and cooperate with the fascists, who will fund ICE, who will fund Israel, who will help poison the planet, who will stiff workers, and help bosses. We don't need those Democrats anymore.
Hint to Mr. Piker: You still need those Democrats. He continues:
In fact, I know we have a message. We are coming. We are unbossed. We are unbound. And we will become undeniable.
Hint to Mr. Piker: You are eminently deniable.

There's so much bizarrely wrong with that spate of spittle-flecked ranting that it's hard to know where to begin. He's throwing old school Democrats under the bus, and threatening to split what's left of the mainstream Democratic Party in two parts; let's call them the Fetterman wing and the Mamdani/AOC wing. Now we might note that the Fetterman wing appears to be shrinking, with only Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) himself in evidence in Congress, and he's already making noises about bailing on the Democrats if they get any more wackadoodle. But among voters? There are a lot of blue-collar, union-worker types out there in the swing states of the Rust Belt who won't take a communist message very well.
Piker, in a little over a minute, hit more high points; he favors unchecked, unscreened, unlimited illegal immigration (defunding ICE), he is anti-Israel, and he even got in a hint of climate scoldery. That's a lot of crazy in 67 seconds.
And that suit! Who told him that dressing up as Chairman Mao is a winning message? He may win over a group of lefty college kids flirting with communism, but that's not going to have any broad appeal to the American electorate.
Hasan Piker, mind you, is more symptom than disease. He's a nut, but he's far from alone in this particular brand of nuttiness. We have members of Congress, from the withered old Bolshevik from Vermont, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), to the infamous socialist windbag Democrat Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14) and, of course, the communist Mayor Zohran Mamdani in New York. But this message from Piker is a little different; he's pointing to what's left the mainstream of the Democratic Party and proclaiming they are no longer needed.
In other words, he's working to split the Democratic Party in two. If he succeeds, we won't see another Democratic majority in Congress for a generation.
Maybe we should encourage him?
