The administration of New York City's municipal government since the advent of "democratic socialist" (communist) Zohran Mamdani has been a sight to behold. The homeless enclaves are expanding, the trash isn't being picked up, crime is spiking, and taxes are being hiked. At every turn, Mayor Mamdani demonizes the "wealthy," presumably meaning anyone with a net worth that's in the black, and the "wealthy" are increasingly looking for greener pastures.
In an exclusive Fox Business interview with Maria Bartiromo, former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo had a stark warning for Mayor Mamdani: Do your job.
Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo issued a stark warning to local leadership, arguing that the rise of Democratic socialist policies and aggressive new taxes on high-net-worth residents is directly causing capital to flee to low-tax red states.
Speaking in an exclusive FOX Business interview, Cuomo said that the current political climate is actively chasing wealth and corporations out of the Empire State in favor of southern tax havens, leaving mainstream Democrats divided over the party's economic future.
"Pick up the garbage, fill the pothole[s], do your job. Bring people to New York, create jobs, don't demonize corporations. Don't demonize the rich. Don't chase people out of New York, which is exactly what [Mamdani] is doing. And you're seeing the wealth transfer to southern states," Cuomo told Maria Bartiromo.
That would seem staggeringly obvious - to anyone who's not a commie, evidently.

Zohran Mamdani and his ilk, though, are functionally incapable of doing what Cuomo is advising here. They can't create jobs; not only do they have no idea how to do that, but the best way to create jobs is to deregulate and lower taxes, which they can't do; they weren't elected to attract business, they were elected to keep the gravy train of free Schiff flowing. They can't stop demonizing the rich; that's how they got elected to do what they were elected to do. And these policies will push wealth, productivity, and jobs out of the Big Apple, as Cuomo notes, and right down to those low-tax, low-regulation, business-friendly southern states, like Texas and Florida.
The former governor is correct in what he said; the "democratic socialists," if they remain in charge of things, will sink New York's economy into the gutter, where it will lie alongside used needles and cartridge casings. But Mr. Cuomo is wrong in thinking that Mamdani and his like can change course. These policies are, in large part, what is driving the Great Sorting, in which the productive are increasingly taking their wealth, their productivity, and the jobs those things create out of blue states into red ones. As they leave, they leave two primary constituencies behind: The dependency class and the very wealthy ivory-tower elites who are insulated by their wealth from the effects of the very things they support; and, if things get bad enough, they can leave, too.
Mr. Cuomo notes that this is a gift given to Republicans:
"Socialism has not worked anywhere on the globe," Cuomo said. "Promises of free lunch, free buses, free rent, free everything. There is no such thing as ‘free.’ Someone always pays. This is a dream. This is nirvana. This is utopia, and they’re selling to young people who are buying it. But it's not going to work. And this socialist movement is the best thing the Republicans have going for them."
"It is a major problem for the Democrats. And again, I think the energy comes from the anger of Trump, and they've misdirected that anger. But it is a real problem for the Democrats, and as I said before, it's the best thing the Republicans have going for them," he added.
Once more, he may well be right. But this isn't a gift necessarily for New York Republicans, great as that would be. It's a gift for Texas and Florida Republicans.
