The United Kingdom is having a hot summer. Granted, that's a little bit of an eyebrow-raiser in the U.K., which is famous for cool, damp weather, but it happens. Of course, many places see warm summer weather, and for the last few decades, people who live in the civilized world have had a great modern solution to hot weather: Air conditioning. AC not only makes life more comfortable, but for some people, like the elderly and people in poor health, it can be a lifesaver during serious heat waves.
It's a lifesaver that's now being denied to Brits, because of the government's lunatic Net Zero policies.
Homeowners are being forced to tear out air conditioning from their private properties under climate laws, despite rising temperatures.
Council planning officers ordered residents to remove air-con units over fears they produce too much carbon dioxide, stating they should only be used as a “last resort”.
The net zero clampdown is part of building regulations that state “active cooling” should only ever be allowed when all other means of “passive cooling”, such as opening windows or using fans, have been exhausted.
The Tories said Britain was being “kept in the dark ages” under a net zero mindset that denies people “modern conveniences that are completely normal in other countries”.
Meanwhile, temperatures are forecast to reach as high as 40C this week, with Britain sweltering under a record heatwave that has forced schools to close, brought trains to a halt and led to the Met Office issuing a red “risk-to-life” warning.
40 Celsius is 104 in Freedom Degrees. That is hot by any measure. For the people mentioned above, the elderly, and people in poor health, it might be life-threatening. And these council planning officers are ordering British subjects (the fact that they are subjects is a big part of the problem here) to remove the one piece of technology that may literally save lives.

There's more:
In one of a string of cases uncovered by The Telegraph, a resident living in North London was forced to “permanently remove” two air-con units from the back of their home.
Planning inspectors working for Camden council said there was “no justification” for the air-con units and that they failed to comply with the local authority’s so-called “cooling hierarchy”.
In an appeal, the resident was told to open the windows and balcony doors of their first-floor flat to ventilate the property “by natural means”.
Get that? These people, who may well have thought themselves to live in a free country as free people, have to "justify" having air conditioning. And, obviously, the fact that the temperatures are in triple digits (in Freedom Degrees) isn't good enough. And the solution offered? Open the windows. It's 104 degrees outside, but sure, open the windows. Let's go back to a pre-20th-century solution for a problem for which we already have an admirably effective, modern fix.
This is an example of what happens when you combine stupid policy with inflexible bureaucracy. These intrusive, unreasonable regulations may well result in deaths, and for what? A nebulous Net Zero cause, wherein the British government is literally sacrificing the health and well-being of the population in pursuit of a goal that isn't even scratching the surface of global CO2 emissions. It's also an example of what the American left would cheerfully inflict on us here, in the United States.
One wonders how long it will be before the British people, who are suffering under the rulings of these bureaucrats, discover the power of one of the great phrases in the English language: "I will not comply."
