The World Cup will be drawing to a close with the final game on Sunday between Argentina and Spain.

It's safe to say it was a rousing success, managing to engage Americans - most of whom don't pay a lot of attention to soccer - drawn in by the fun and enthusiasm of the events and the fans. Coming together with America 250, it also had us appreciating so much of what makes us great as a country, as we saw things through the eyes of our World Cup guests.

President Donald Trump and FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) president Gianni Infantino spoke at a FIFA reception at Trump Tower in New York on Friday and celebrated their achievements.

"By all means, this World Cup has exceeded all expectations. Full stadiums, 7 million people in the stadium, tens of millions in the cities in America, in Canada, in Mexico, billions in front of their TV, everyone enjoying the game with happiness, with joy, with peace!

The American dream, Mr. President, came to reality. We united the world.

Infantino called it the "greatest World Cup of all time."

The president spoke about how a lot of people came here not knowing what to think about America (thanks, liberal media), but fell in love with our country

Trump said it was a "true honor for Americans to share our magnificent country with the world."

"I think beyond a sporting event, it's been, this has been not just a sporting event. This has been far beyond a sporting event. This has been something very, very special."

Trump had some fun joking about how we should be given the World Cup again since everyone had such a great time, but this time leave out Mexico and Canada. He also jokingly proposed they could share a tournament with China - but noted it would be a long flight between games.

That might also have been a little bit of a subtle joking jab at China, which does not have a good soccer team.

Trump is scheduled to be at the game on Sunday and will be presenting the trophy to the winning team with Infantino.
