Despicable: Mamdani Admits to Looking the Other Way While Women Were Raped in Cairo During 2013 Uprising

There's a popular saying that's been used in politics over the last few years, and it's that, "When someone shows you who they are, believe them."

I believe this applies perfectly to the latest revelation about Democratic New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani regarding his own comments written for the Bowdoin Orient, in which he tries to defend remaining silent about the mass rape of women in Cairo in 2013 amid protests against the Muslim Brotherhood.

Feels Like We're on the Deck of the Titanic As Zohran Mamdani Holds Overwhelming Lead in NYC Mayoral Race

77 WABC Radio reported:

Mamdani, who is now 33, was a student in Cairo in 2013, when protests broke out against Egypt's then-Islamist Muslim Brotherhood regime.

Large numbers of women were involved in the protest, and according to Human Rights Watch, up to 91 women were raped or sexually assaulted in just four days.

The wave of attacks was documented at the time by major news media, including PBS Newshour and Euronews.

In his own words, Mamdani admits that as a private citizen, he gave a lot of thought to joining several volunteer organizations to help the women at the time who were being sexually assaulted, but thought twice about it. Not out of concern for his own safety, but out of fear that he would be seen as a "foreign" savior.

Mamdani wrote about those protests and the threat to women who participated:

Yet, while many traditional social divisions fell, the barrier of gender remained. Although I saw many women at the protest, and at protests in the days ahead, they had to contend with the very real threat of sexual harassment and assault, especially at night. @OpAntiSH and @TahrirBG_DWB are two groups that strive to disrupt attempted assaults and are present at most major protests in the square, with the former reporting an average of dozens of assaults at the end of a night of protest.

Here's where we really see Mamdani's weakness unfold. He wrote:

Enraged by the stories and statistics, I thought of volunteering only to come to the realization that the last thing Egyptians needed was a well-meaning foreigner's assistance.

And those assaults he referenced, where he refused to step in, included what happened to CBS foreign correspondent Lara Logan, who was repeatedly sexually assaulted and beaten while covering the protests in Egypt.

Despite these comments, Mamdani has laughingly attempted to tout his advocacy for women's rights, as 77 WABC noted.

Back in March, the woman-led New York City Deputy Sheriffs' Benevolent Association endorsed Mamdani's nearest rival, Andrew Cuomo.

In a statement, the organization said that "New York City needs a strong mayor, who isn't afraid to ruffle feathers if it means keeping our neighborhoods safe."

The "ruffling feathers" comment might be seen as a veiled reference to Mamdani's explanation for why he did not act to stop rapes in Cairo, when many other Muslim men did so.

For those keeping track, Mamdani is too weak to defend or help women who are being raped. He repeatedly has refused to denounce Hamas. He has plans to turn New York City into the next communist disaster by taxing millionaires out of the city and installing government-run grocery stores, etc.

His polling numbers should scare the heck out of any resident or American, for that matter, with Newsweek reporting on October 3 that Mamdani is well in the lead.

Mamdani is weak, feckless, and dangerous, and needs to be nowhere close to leading such a powerful city.
