Sometimes one can’t help but wonder, what were the passengers on the Titanic thinking as they realized that the unsinkable ship was actually going down and they were not going to be miraculously saved by a passing boat? Their first thought must have been, “I’ve got to get off this damn thing." As we know, a certain number were able to get disembark onto lifeboats and survive—but a whole lot more were left standing on the deck looking out at the freezing ocean, knowing this was the end.
I imagine that’s how a lot of New Yorkers are feeling these days.
Despite saying that he would go after the Big Apple’s wealthy, that he’s not particularly concerned about crime, and that he refuses to condemn the loaded phrase “globalize the intifada,” one of the most far-left politicians in America to make it this far—Democrat Socialist Zohran Mamdani—is looking like he’s virtually a shoo-in to be the next mayor of the United States’ most populous city.
That is, according to a new poll, at least:
Zohran Mamdani has opened a commanding lead in the race for mayor of New York City, buoyed by support for his affordability platform and by the splintered opposition, according to a new survey by The New York Times and Siena University.
The poll found that 46 percent of likely voters currently planned to choose Mr. Mamdani, the Democratic nominee, in a four-way race. His support spans racial and ethnic groups but is especially strong among young and highly educated voters.

THIS IS NO JOKE: Zohran Mamdani Explains His Tax the Rich Strategy, and Everyone Is Laughing
Zohran Mamdani's CNN Interview Was So Moronic That Even Abby Phillip Couldn't Let It Slide
Current Mayor Eric Adams and former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo are running as independents, while Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa is running as a Republican, but none of their numbers come close to Mamdani’s.
The only good news that could be gleaned from the current state of the race is that it could change if one or more of Mamdani’s opponents stepped out of the race. As Jim Carrey’s character Lloyd Christmas said in “Dumb and Dumber,” "So you're telling me there's a chance?"
The Times/Siena poll underscored the potential impact of shrinking the field. Doing so, it suggested, could meaningfully erode Mr. Mamdani’s lead, but only if both Mr. Adams and Mr. Sliwa — who have vowed to keep running — suspended their campaigns.
In a hypothetical head-to-head matchup, voters who initially supported Mr. Adams and Mr. Sliwa broke heavily toward Mr. Cuomo, a moderate Democrat. The survey suggested that would lead to an extremely tight race, with 48 percent supporting Mr. Mamdani and 44 percent supporting Mr. Cuomo.
Did you ever in your wildest dreams that Andrew Cuomo could be the rational choice in an election?
In the current four-way race, Mamdani has 46% of likely voters, compared to Cuomo's 24%, Sliwa's 15% and Adams's 9%.

But in a hypothetical head-to-head matchup, it becomes "an extremely tight race" -- Mamdani's 48% to Cuomo's 44%, according to a new Times/Siena College poll.… pic.twitter.com/7f9Ai2wso2
One can only hope and pray that one of our nation’s leading cities doesn’t end up like the Titanic.
