Vice President JD Vance describes what Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk's legacy must be after he was killed by an assassin's bullet on September 10 on the campus of Utah Valley University, Orem, Utah, amid attempts by those on the left to twist it.
During his stop on Wednesday at a precision metal stamping facility in Howell, Michigan, to talk about President Donald Trump's tax cuts for working families, Vance spoke to students and workers as he reflected on Kirk's legacy. He said a majority of Americans don't care which political side of the aisle you are on; we, just like Kirk, believe in speaking to each other, not killing each other because our views are different.

There Is No Unity …': JD Vance Brings Receipts About Leftist Violence After Charlie Kirk's Murder

"[Charlie] felt that the most important, American political virtue was to just get out there and talk to our fellow Americans," Vance said. "And I hate to say that a week ago, he was doing what he did best, he was doing what he loved, and an assassin gunned him down for daring to say things that that assassin thought were wrong or shouldn't be said."
"I think I speak for the majority of our fellow Americans when I say we do not attack or commit violence against people because we disagree with their ideas," he added. "We debate ideas — and we're going to keep on debating them in honor of the great Charlie Kirk for as long as I have a microphone."

The vice president then talked about what TPUSA meant to college kids who felt lost because their professors or social group didn't favor their beliefs. He said Kirk's organization gave them a home, friends, support, and that must live on after Kirk's death.
"And I would like to think whether you are a Democrat or a Republican, this basic idea of young people gathering to discuss and debate, that is the thing that we cannot let pass away just because the leader of Turning Point USA was gunned down by an assassin," Vance said.
"And I want to let you know that whether you're a Democrat or Republican, whatever your belief is, I will fight for your right to speak your mind," he added. "We reject political violence, and we reject the crazy left-wing radicals that gunned down our friend Charlie Kirk. Let's talk to one another and not try to shoot each other down for disagreeing."
JD Vance Breaks Down Talking About Charlie Kirk's Legacy, and Why He Could Never 'Fill In' for Him
To my friends on the political Right: I understand the feeling that people are putting words into Charlie Kirk's mouth. At some level, I agree and share your frustration.
— JD Vance (@JDVance) September 17, 2025
Try to remember: a lot of people loved Charlie. It is natural for them to debate his views and his legacy.…
Later in the day, Vance made a post on X, calling on those on the Right to celebrate Kirk's life and debate later those who are "putting words into" his mouth.
"To my friends on the political Right: I understand the feeling that people are putting words into Charlie Kirk's mouth. At some level, I agree and share your frustration," Vance wrote." Try to remember: a lot of people loved Charlie."
"It is natural for them to debate his views and his legacy. In fact, I think Charlie would welcome that," he added. "But for now, let's celebrate our friend, remember his impact, and save the debate for after his funeral."
Vance is a thousand percent right. Kirk's legacy must be established in stone before the wackos on the left are able to try to taint it or twist it into something that it's not, as we have witnessed absolute depravity across this country from liberals celebrating and justifying his murder.
