Vice President J.D. Vance sat behind a microphone in his White House office to speak about his dear friend, Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk, as he got emotional talking about how he will try to honor him.

Speaking on "The Charlie Kirk Show" on Monday, Vance made it clear he could never fill in for Kirk, who was murdered while speaking with college kids on the campus of Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, on September 10 by an assassin influenced by leftist ideology.

Vance explained he was there, "Filling in for somebody who can not be filled in for, the Great Charlie Kirk."

"The last several days have been extremely hard for our country... The thing is, every single person in this building owes something to Charlie," the vice president said. "He was a joyful warrior for our country. He loved America. He devoted himself tirelessly to making our country a better place."

"He was a critical part of getting Donald Trump elected as president, getting me elected as vice president," he added. "And so much of our success over the last seven months is due to his efforts, his staffing, his support, and his friendship."

"Charlie was a visionary," Vance continued. "He was a luminary. He brought people together. He didn't just teach people what to say. He didn't just teach people; they could actually speak their mind on campus, and he created a whole social network for an entire generation of young people."

What might have been one of the most amazing parts of the show was when he nearly broke down in tears, revealing how he planned to honor his friend, and it had nothing to do with politics.

The VP talked about speaking with Kirk's widow, Erika, about the kind of husband he was. She revealed that he never raised his voice or was cross with her, leaving Vance to realize he's a "pretty good husband," but he could do better.

"I took for that moment that I need to be a better husband and I need to be a better father. Because of all these moments that I share just in the last few days, the books that I read to my kids," Vance said as he became overwhelmed with emotion and was clearly struggling through his words.

"Going up to their bedroom and kissing them and hugging them before bed," he added, as his eyes began to fill up with tears. "I just realize that all of these moments that I get to have, Charlie is not able to have them anymore and Charlie's kids and his beautiful wife are not able to have them anymore."

"And maybe the best way that I can contribute and the best way that I can honor my dear friend, is to... be the kind of husband to my wife that he was to his," Vance continued. "He [Charlie] would talk all the time about the most important thing you could do, is not vote for a particular candidate it was to become, if you are a young man, a husband and a father. He talked about the joy that came from fatherhood, the joy that came from raising a family and being part of their growth."

During the show, Vance invited White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller on to talk about the man behind the Charlie Kirk microphone.  Miller shared the chilling final text message he received from Kirk on September 9, the day before he was murdered. It comes at the 26:30 minute mark.

Miller said it read:

We need to have an organized strategy to go after the left-leaning organizations that are promoting violence in this country.
