As LA County DA George Gascón Tanks in the Polls, He Doubles Down on a Controversial Staff Choice

Since Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón was elected in 2020, crime has increased rather than decreased. You see, when Gascón was running for election, he never made any promises to be tough on crime, yet the voting public swallowed wholesale his Soros-enabled justice reform schtick. After being sworn into office on December 7, 2020, Gascón immediately trotted out his "Special Directives": a laundry list of soft-on-crime social justice reforms engineered to be lenient on the criminal element. Essentially, he removed consequences for committing crimes, and the criminals have become frighteningly emboldened. Gascón's directives deny victims and their families justice and re-victimize them by releasing criminals who should be locked up and charged to the fullest extent the law allows, all under the guise of righting the scales of justice.

The people of Los Angeles County have tried to recall him without success. With the 2024 election just under a year away, polling from his opposition shows that Gascón could be in trouble. But that is small comfort to the citizens living under his tyranny. Multiple cities in L.A. County have issued a no-confidence vote against Gascón, while local and regional criminal justice leaders have tried to move certain felony cases into another jurisdiction in order to try to get justice for the victims. But the criminals continue to enjoy no cash bail, easy probation, and lightweight sentences for truly heinous acts. Once these malcontents are released, they go back into their life of crime, often escalating their acts; when you have no stick, it is easy to ignore the carrot.

Angelenos know they are sitting ducks and pawns in this social experiment; therefore, they have no illusion of safety. Many are taking matters into their own hands, and it is going as expected. In early December, Los Angeles homeowner Vince Ricci stood his ground with a firearm to fend off attackers and protect his family. When asked about DA Gascón, Ricci was less than complimentary, as my colleague Bob Hoge reported.

Ricci also wasted no words when discussing soft-on-crime LA Country District Attorney George Gascón, who is notorious for letting criminals off easy and catering to criminals rather than their victims. Most recently, a suspect was caught on tape attempting to sexually assault a woman walking down the street in Long Beach—but the George Soros-backed "prosecutor" couldn't be bothered to file felony charges, instead opting for a misdemeanor count. Ridiculous.

Ricci: “This Gascon is screwing [the cops] so much, that he’s not gonna to take up the case either way. Even if they find these kids … Gascon’s not gonna care they were shooting at some white guy,” he said.

Business owners are also being terrorized through Gascón's pro-criminal policies, as Deputy District Attorney Jonathan Hatami, who is running to unseat Gascón, details.

An innocent store owner was fatally stabbed by two 17-yr-olds. The entire community asked for the 17-yr-olds to be charged with murder in adult court. Under George Gascón, one of the murderers was just sentenced to 5 years in a juvenile facility for manslaughter. As has been frequently happening, the juvenile will likely be released early. This isn’t a reform. It’s not justice for the victim, his family or the community. It doesn’t make us any safer. And, it’s clearly not the will of the People.  Gascón ran on a platform of never placing “kids in cages.” He tug on peoples heart strings. He manipulated and lied. I do believe many juveniles can and should be rehabilitated. But 17-yr-olds straight up murdering innocent store owners. A DA must make tough decisions. I’ve worked in juvenile court. Gascón has not. I know public safety must be the priority, not slogans. There must be accountability. There must be justice. That is clearly not happening under Gascón.

Another Los Angeles business owner expressed his outrage at the elected leaders of California (leaders whom he admitted he voted into office) after having his business broken into and looted by thieves who lifted their getaway car from a Los Angeles Police Department impound lot. The jokes write themselves.

Perhaps this deeply left-leaning county is finally coming to its senses. A recent poll run by Nathan Hochman, who is also eyeing the L.A. County DA chair, portends more bad news for the incumbent DA

A new poll on the state of the Los Angeles District Attorney’s election race shows Gascon remains deeply unpopular and – even if were to finish in the top two in the March primary to make the November runoff – he would most likely lose then – badly.

The poll – commissioned by district attorney candidate Nathan Hochman – gives Gascon 18% of the vote in the March primary, Hochman himself 12%, Jon Hatami with 8%, Maria Ramirez and Jeff Chemerinsky each with 6%, John McKinney 3%, Judges Debra Archuleta and Craig Mitchell with 1% each, David Milton and Eric Siddall at zero with 46% still undecided.

Hochman ran for California Attorney General in 2022 and, for California, made a good showing. In terms of this race, he seems pretty confident in these results. However, most of the L.A. DA competitors are doing their own polling, and it shows varying results for individual candidates leading the pack over Gascón. The one thing that is consistent across all the polling: Angelenos are sick to the eyeteeth of George Gascón and his Special Directives and would prefer to see him gone.

It bears noting that a poll done by the Siddall campaign a month ago showed similar Gascon and undecided numbers, but put Siddall – rather than Hochman – in second place in the primary.

And a poll done for the Association for Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs in October showed another set of Gascon competitor numbers, with Ramirez taking second place.

In other words, the support of the individual candidates opposing Gascon – there are eleven all told – remains relatively fluid and difficult to measure and will most likely remain that way until next year when the public begins to look more closely at the candidates (not coincidentally, Hochman also announced a $1 million dollar television ad campaign for the spring.)

One thing that is consistent through the three polls is the support for Gascon – or lack thereof.  Each of them shows Gascon as being in a terribly weak position going into his re-election campaign.

You would think these anemic numbers would give Gascón pause and prompt reflection and course correction.

This latest poll puts Gascon at a negative 34 points in the favorable/unfavorable view of the candidate overall category and facing a 49 point deficit when residents were asked if they feel safer – 11% or less safe – 60% – than they did before Gascon took office.

Those numbers are in line with the previous Deputy’s poll that showed a 27 point favorability gap for Gascon.

You would think wrong. On Friday, Gascón elevated Tiffiny Townend Blacknell to chief of staff. Blacknell's background shows that she would have no qualms in carrying out Gascón's directives

Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascón has promoted a former public defender to his chief of staff who has called the Los Angeles Police Department "barbarians."

Tiffiny Blacknell, who has served in the district attorney's office as a grade 4 prosecutor, special advisor, and chief of communications, was promoted to be Gascón's chief of staff on Friday, multiple sources tell Fox News. Her new role will begin Jan. 16.

During the protests following George Floyd's death, Blacknell made a post on X referring to the Los Angeles Police Department as "barbarians," and "an occupying army," and used the "#DefundPolice" hashtag.

In a previous post on X, she also said that "prison is obsolete," calling on Americans to "reimagine America without it."

Fox News Senior Correspondent Bill Melugin did the deep dive into Blacknell and discovered even more evidence that she is bad news.

I previously reported that Blacknell was also involved in an alleged secret “sweetheart” plea deal offer of 7 years to a suspected gang murderer behind the backs of the prosecutor & victim’s family. The deal fell apart after judge found out about it.

If it isn't clear that Blacknell will not be working for the good of the people of Los Angeles County, but for the good of Gascón and his Special Directives, then you need a new set of lenses. Before mounting his run for L.A. DA, Hatami sued Gascón for intimidation, harassment, and retaliation, so he is intimately acquainted with Blacknell and what Gascón's promotion of her represents.

Yesterday George Gascón appointed one person to his management team who has continuously called police officers “barbarians,” has never even prosecuted one case as a Deputy District Attorney & who actively campaigned for Gascón before even getting the job. Gascón appointed another person to his management team who was involved in a public verbal altercation with police, has prosecuted maybe 5 cases at best and also who actively campaigned for Gascón before even getting the job.

Gascón said after he won the DA race in 2020: “I want those that supported my opponent to know that I will work incredibly hard to earn your trust and respect. Having voices at the table that disagree challenges me to be better, and it is critical to my ability to do this work in the most effective manner possible.” Clearly that statement wasn’t true. Gascón doesn’t believe in leading by example since he’s never taken the time to even open and work one case file. He’s appointed people in his management team who believe exactly what he does, truly having an unethical bias towards law enforcement and also all three have limited to no real experience doing the job of a prosecutor.

Gascón policies have been disastrous leading to an unsafe LA. His statements & rhetoric are of a politician, not a true District Attorney. His management style has been just as bad leading to multiple lawsuits, hundreds of DDA’s just leaving, the lowest morale of all time, and a shortage of new DDA’s wanting to come to our office. This also negatively affects public safety for all Angelenos.  People really have a choice to make on March 5, 2024. The public safety of our children & families, or politics as usual. You will get to decide.

Vote HATAMI for LADA 2024

Our Managing Editor, Jennifer Van Laar, also exposed Blacknell as the director of Gascón's goon squad tasked with targeting and retaliating against DAs who don't follow the program.

Earlier this week we reported about intimidation and retaliation efforts aimed at Deputy District Attorneys in Los Angeles County who stick to actually representing the public and refuse to follow LA District Attorney George Gascon’s new Special Directives. One tool being used is a Google form that was set up to gather all of the particulars of any case in which a DDA didn’t adhere to said Special Directives.

Now we know that the person responsible for at least disseminating that form (and possibly for creating it) is Tiffiny Townend Blacknell, a Deputy Public Defender who is a member of Gascon’s Public Safety Committee and has been outspoken about holding Deputy DA’s and judges who fail to bow down to Gascon’s demands accountable for their actions.

So it is evident that Gascón plans to continue full-steam ahead with his crime-enabling policies, with a lieutenant by his side willing to do his bidding. Angelenos need to look toward securing their own safety, determine to vote Gascón out in 2024, or look at leaving Los Angeles altogether. The time for choosing is now.
