In a nerve-wracking incident that took place in Los Angeles, a father’s quick thinking and his firearm potentially saved his family from a pair of would-be home invaders. Video footage reveals a startling encounter in which this individual, being faced with two intruders, averted what could have been a tragic scenario using his firearm.

The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday when the father was walking up to his front door. Before he could reach the entrance, two men who had hopped his fence and accosted him.

A Los Angeles homeowner turned the tables on a pair of home invaders, getting into a shootout that forced the robbers to flee empty-handed.

Terrifying surveillance video shows one masked intruder with a gun run up to the Mid City man as he was about to walk in his front door.

The homeowner then pulls out a gun to defend himself, starting a shootout with the intruders.

"I guess they decided to try to come at me and come in the house but I have a five-month-old baby and a wife and a nanny in the house and that wasn't going to happen," the man told Eyewitness News.

"There was nothing in my house that was worth dying for. But I was willing to die for my family."

The father’s quick response likely protected his family members’ lives as well as his own. There is no telling how that situation would have turned out if he had not been armed. In a state like California, which desperately tries to ensure that responsible citizens are not able to arm themselves, this story raises questions as to how many others weren’t as lucky as this individual because the state’s laws make it difficult for people to keep and bear arms.

Unfortunately, the situation in the Golden State is becoming even worse as its legislature passed even more gun control laws in September in response to the Supreme Court’s decision in New York Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen. The new laws include microstamping technology requirements for new handgun models and additional regulations on concealed-carry permits.

Even worse, Gov. Gavin Newsom has taken action against the gun industry. He also imposed an 11 percent tax on gun vendors and manufacturers to fund school safety and gun violence intervention.

Not to be outdone, AB 28 will put in place an excise tax of 11 percent on all firearm and ammunition sales, which would increase the price of guns and ammo across the state. California is now the only state in the nation that has added an excise tax on firearms and ammunition on top of the existing 10-11 percent federal excise tax on firearms and ammunition. The tax, when implemented would be directed at firearms and ammunition dealers that have over $5,000 in sales over a three-month period, and it would not apply to members of law enforcement, even if they are retired.

Funds generated from this tax scam are allegedly going to be directed to public schools to pay for campus safety programs, as well as a grant fund that will target youth and gang prevention programs. However, there was no safety mechanism in place in the bill that required any monies generated after the first $125 million to be spent.

These laws could be costing responsible Californians their lives. When the government makes it more difficult for people to keep and bear arms, it makes citizens more vulnerable to those who care nothing for their cherished gun laws.

In this father’s case, he was able to jump through the hoops necessary to arm himself. But how many more are unable to do so because of the cost and time involved in obtaining a permit? Even more importantly, how many lives have been lost because California’s government does not deem it necessary for regular folks to be able to defend themselves?
