On Saturday, I wrote that President Donald Trump ejecting various media organizations from the White House was a long overdue move, seeing as how these legacy media companies have abandoned their duty of informing the public of facts and have settled, instead, for being mouthpieces of a singular party. As you've seen more times than you can count, it's not the Republicans.
At that point, there's no real reason to have them around places of high importance, like the White House... or your kid's lemonade stand.
Though the Trump administration provided an extensive list of hoaxes and lies pushed by the likes of CNN, one of the primary offenders of legacy media bias, a really solid example of the legacy media's interest in benefiting the Democrats is the recent Lauren Boebert story.
As you might've heard recently, the Colorado Representative had an ethics complaint logged against her with the ethics committee concerning improper sexual relationships with her staff and former GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz. As my colleague Kyle Becker reported:
The allegations come from a complaint filed with the House Committee on Ethics on Sept. 17 by David B. Wheeler, who heads American Muckrakers, a group that has targeted Boebert for years.
Wheeler signed the filing under penalty of perjury. That doesn't mean the allegations have been established as true, however, and the complaint itself is not a finding by the Ethics Committee. The committee has not publicly announced that it has opened an investigation.
The complaint alleges Boebert had sexual relationships with three people who worked under her supervision: former district director Clarice Navarro Ratzlaff, current district chief of staff Raven Finegan, and former chief of staff Jeffrey Small.
The most detailed allegations concern Navarro, a former Colorado state lawmaker who served as Boebert's district director from 2021 until early 2025.
Where is the proof?
Right now, there isn't a lot. Boebert flatly denies the accusation, as does Gaetz. Boebert's ex-husband, Jayson Boebert, also called the entire thing a "fairy tale." The claim points to public payment to staffers, but what those payments don't point to is any guilt or substantiation for the claims.
Anyone paying attention will find the claims a little less believable thanks to the timing. The claim has been filed with midterms right around the corner, and Boebert looks like a weak link to attack.
But let's put that aside for a moment and focus on why this accusation works without evidence. Again, you don't really need any. You just need to make it sound official enough for the media to make it sound as if something huge is going down in Washington. Obviously, it's not. The complaint was filed, but the ethics committee hasn't even said they were investigating anything yet. As of now, no action is being taken officially.
It was just a complaint that was handed to the government, and that's that.
Yet, the media, being the manipulative thing that it is, have placed the necessary words in the necessary order to make it all sound as if Boebert is in the hot seat, the spotlight directly on her, and she's shaking in her boots. The media could quote the claims as a complaint, which is what it is, but if you shine the right light on them, you can make them sound like a finding.
Boebert is guilty without evidence because the public was primed to think she is. To be fair, Boebert helped with the priming due to the Beetlejuice incident. Getting felt up in a theater on camera and subsequently kicked out because she was vaping doesn't exactly scream "family values candidate." However, the media are relying on this to manipulate the masses.
Is this going to make people not vote for Boebert in November? Probably not. She is something of an underperformer, but the polls are leaning her way and are likely to stay that way; what it does do is erode the perception of the Republican Party as the party that keeps to its values, and that can have effects outside of Colorado.
But the bottom line here is that Boebert isn't actually the real scandal, at least not yet. The real scandal is how the media is making it a scandal before it's proven to be one. They're happy to do it in service to a group that isn't you, whether you're a Democrat voter or not.
