In November 2024, we saw millions of Americans head to the polls to say, “We’re not gonna take it anymore!” The election of Donald Trump to the White House, along with majorities delivered in both the House and Senate, was as resounding a rebuke of a political party – the flailing Democrats – as you will ever see.
In November 2025, however, we saw many voters in blue states doubling down on stupid and voting for more of the decay, crime, and misery that they've grown accustomed to. California saw the anti-Democratic gerrymandering measure – Prop. 50 – approved with ease, New Jersey and Virginia both went for Dem governors, while New York City voted in the most far-left modern candidate that I can think of, democratic socialist Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani.
But let’s not forget Seattle, home to some of the nuttiest brands of politics you’ll ever see. Not to be left out, they voted for a lesser-known Marxist, Katie Wilson, to be their next mayor. She beat out incumbent Democrat Bruce Harrell, because I guess he wasn’t far enough left for the coffee enthusiasts.
He conceded the race Thursday, despite the fact that fewer than 2,000 votes separated the two.
From the looks of it, it would seem that Mamdani and Katie Wilson would be great pals, because they both share Marxist fantasies even though the movement has historically failed virtually everywhere it’s been tried:
OH MY GOD

Socialist Seattle mayoral candidate Katie Wilson was just outed by KUOW as a nepo baby whose parents, New York professors, send her regular checks. She wouldn’t say how much the checks are for. As she dupes actual poor people into thinking she knows their plight. pic.twitter.com/ei5h8dzBYU
Here's the Latest From the 'Just When You Thought It Couldn't Get Any Weirder in Seattle' Files
Her resume is shockingly thin for someone about to be put in charge of a major city:
Wilson, perceived as the less experienced candidate, operates a small nonprofit called the Transit Riders Union. Her work has included advocating for policies around minimum wage increases, better access to public transit and affordable housing.
Prior to her establishment of the Transit Riders Union in 2011, Wilson worked several jobs in various unrelated industries, including as a barista, boatyard worker, apartment manager, lab technician, baker, construction worker and legal assistant.
Wilson has credited her parents with helping her run her campaign for mayor.
Her parents certainly do help her out – in fact, they regularly send her funds, although she won’t say how much. No wonder she likes the socialist concept of Other People’s Money.
Here’s one of her great ideas:

Her platform sounds wonderful, but like Mamdani’s, one can’t help but wonder who’s going to pay for this utopia.
“I want everyone in this great city of ours to have a roof over their head. I want universal child care and free K-8 summer care. I want world-class mass transit. I want great, safe public spaces where kids can run around with abandon. I want stable, affordable housing for renters. I want social housing. I want much more land and wealth to be owned and stewarded by communities instead of corporations,” she said.
So now we’ve got two democratic socialist mayors running major American cities. What could go wrong?
