I remember cracking up at my desk in April 2024, laughing my behind off as I wrote about the inestimable Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) telling a hapless then-President Biden to “go to Amazon and buy a spine online.”
Although that story was about Joe’s appeasement of Iran, the same advice could be given to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), arguably the most powerful Democrat in the country, who can’t be bothered to get off the pot and weigh in on the mayoral candidacy of democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani.
Mamdani is running to be mayor of New York City, the most populous metropolis in our nation and one that is in Chuck’s own state. Now, on November 4, election day, the incredibly long-serving senator won’t even give his blessing or his denial to the frontrunner. That’s “leadership” in the Democrat party, folks.
Senator Chuck Schumer of New York, the dean of New York’s congressional delegation and an avatar of old New York politics, made it to Election Day without endorsing Zohran Mamdani, the young Democratic nominee for mayor with leftist views.
Mr. Schumer, who voted early, was reticent on Tuesday to even say whom he cast his ballot for.
A spokesman for Mr. Schumer would not say whether he had voted for Mr. Mamdani.

We criticized House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (NY-8) in late October for reluctantly endorsing the Marxist Mamdani and selling the Democrat party out to socialism, but at least the man had some spine. Jeffries may be on the wrong side of everything and is singularly uninspiring, but even as Schumer keeps the government shut down in a childish power play, he refuses to man up and declare his position.

House Speaker Mike Johnson of Louisiana (R-4) said Monday that even though Chuck can’t take a principled stand, he’s secretly “terrified” of the extremist Mamdani:

But Schumer is TERRIFIED of his radical Marxist base — led by the next Mayor of New York, Zohran Mamdani — which has COMPLETELY taken over the Democrat Party.

The fact that hardworking Americans are hurting simply because Democrats lack the backbone to stand up to their base is completely DISQUALIFYING.
Meanwhile, is Obamaworld going to turn on the hapless minority leader?
“It is hard to imagine something more emblematic of what’s wrong with the Democratic Party than an aging insider refusing to support a young generational talent who has built a movement that looks like the future,” said Ben Rhodes, who worked as a top adviser to former President Barack Obama.
Speaking of Obama, he hasn’t endorsed Mamdani either, though he has reportedly been “encouraging.” Perhaps the pair could be written about in a book called “Profiles in Something Other Than Courage.”
Look, I don’t want Mamdani running the Big Apple any more than any other conservative does. But if Chuck doesn’t like him, then say so. To stand on the sidelines when you’re the so-called leader of the party should earn him exactly zero respect – in fact, it should earn him failing marks all around, even from his own side.
I feel like after his disastrous shutdown, his lack of principle, and his constant dog whistles to violence, Chuck Schumer’s endless Senate career may finally be nearing its end. I can't imagine anyone will shed any tears.
