If there's a policy proposal from the Democratic Socialists of America that wouldn't result in a crashed economy and a standard of living for the American people on a par with that of the Soviet Union at its worst, I'm not aware of what it may be. The policies these half-wits advocate are a laundry list of economic ruin and rights denied; the economy under their rule would have us waiting in line for a potato ration.
Most Americans aren't sanguine about these notions. But the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) are turning to another emotional argument to try to sell their agenda: Anthropogenic climate change. They are using climate scoldery to sell their own version of the Green New Deal, and their proposal is the original Green New Deal, first proposed by the card-carrying DSA member, Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14), on steroids.
As if AOC's Green New Deal wasn't dumb enough. In pushing her personal nitwittery, AOC coined the term "climate justice," following the notion that you can make anything a radical leftist cause by tacking the word "justice" onto it. In this, she was trying to channel President Franklin Roosevelt's Depression-era New Deal, which may have actually prolonged the Depression, but she was more ambitious even than FDR. AOC claimed her Green New Deal would create jobs — it wouldn't — she claimed it would mitigate the damage done by humans to the climate — it can't — and somehow also claimed it would address social issues from affordable housing to "income inequality." All of that was horse squeeze, and even many Democrats weren't on board, at least, not at first.
Now, though, the DSA is proposing that the original DSA is too half-hearted for them. (Half-witted is more like it; more on that in a moment.) The DSA, on this topic, states:
Humankind has reached a moment of existential crisis. Human activity is causing disastrous climate disruption and Earth’s sixth mass extinction event, triggering critical losses of biodiversity. We are already locked in for global warming that will have catastrophic effects, and we are on a slippery path to our own extinction. The 2018 Special Report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) warns unequivocally that “without societal transformation and rapid implementation of ambitious greenhouse gas reduction measures, pathways to limiting warming to 1.5°C and achieving sustainable development will be exceedingly difficult, if not impossible, to achieve.”
That is, of course, poppycock. Anyone who has even a nodding acquaintance with geologic history knows that the earth, throughout its 4.6 billion-year history, has mostly been warmer than now, sometimes much warmer, and that the planet is still in an interglacial period, and has been since the last major glaciation ended about 13,000 years ago. The DSA, on the other hand, claims to know what this ancient planet's "correct" temperature is, and what's more, these agitated little commies think they have their hands on the thermostat. None of these things are true.
We've beaten this topic to pieces, and yet here's the DSA, still trying to get in a few licks on this dead horse, with some extra panic-mongering thrown in; they make claims that, for instance, we humans are "on a path to our own extinction" but offer no evidence.
This isn't about the climate, of course. Those of us who have watched the commie left know this. It's about control. It's about power. The climate scoldery is a mask; nothing more.
CFACT's Craig Rucker asks the key question: At what cost?
The new DSA Green New Deal keeps all of that and piles on “social, economic, racial, regional, and gender-based justice and equality.”
What leprechaun pot of gold pays the tab? How does an economy buried in that kind of debt help American workers and families? On those questions, they take the Fifth.
On what planet have wind, solar, communal ownership, and anti-capitalist government delivered anything but poverty and decline?
Britain and Germany now have nearly the highest household and industrial electricity prices on earth. They have sent millions of jobs and entire industries to China and India — countries that burn coal, lean on oil and gas, and emit far more greenhouse gases than the United States, Europe, Australia, and Africa combined.
Rich UK families are already leaving for lower-tax shores. In the process, the Brits, Germans, and other Europeans have set the planet to mining metals and minerals for turbines, panels, batteries, and thousands of miles of new transmission lines that blanket the land and slaughter birds and bats.
This, they assure us, is clean, green, renewable, and sustainable.
Climate-obsessed California and New York are on the same path: the highest continental U.S. electricity prices, lost jobs, and the same ecological wreckage at home and abroad.
This is always the question the far left never answers. But we can look at the evidence; people are fleeing the areas where "Green New Deal" policies have been put in place, mostly because they cannot afford them anymore. But the DSA wants to take this lunacy nationwide, and their policies would be ruinous, for the economy, for the republic, and for liberty and property.
The great economist Thomas Sowell says, when debating leftists on economic issues, there are two questions on which we must insist on an answer: "To what end? At what cost?" We can answer the great Dr. Sowell in this case with a high degree of confidence; the DSA, were they to answer these questions honestly, would do so thusly:
"To what end? Power. At what cost? Any."
