Watch Europe. Watch the United Kingdom. What the European left does today, the American left will seek to do tomorrow, and in some cases, they have already done so.
Case in point: the small British town of Thetford, in Norfolk. Thetford is an ancient, traditional English community, a market town near Thetford Forest. It's been so since before the Tudor dynasty, and would remain so today, had the locals anything to say about it.
The locals don't have much to say about it, as it turns out. The British government is loading the town down with "asylum seekers" who are being housed and fed in Thetford at taxpayer expense. To their credit, the locals just aren't having it - and they are letting the authorities know about their displeasure.
With windows smashed, protesters cuffed and a female police officer “seriously bitten” as tensions boil over, the tinderbox town of Thetford has become a flashpoint in the row over Britain’s migrant crisis.
Last week, angry crowds began throwing stones and eggs at several houses of multiple occupation (HMOs) on residential streets, where asylum seekers had been housed – and locals say they won’t stop until they’re gone.
Over three days, starting last Tuesday, ugly clashes broke out in the Norfolk town.
Police say their brave officers were working “tirelessly” in challenging circumstances to counter anyone engaging in “violence, intimidation or criminality” – with three arrests made.
The officers may be working tirelessly, but our sympathies should rightly go to the residents of Thetford, some of whose ancestors have been in the town for hundreds of years. These people aren't happy with the national government dropping a load of Third World "refugees" in their town without so much as a by-your-leave. We can hardly blame them for that.
A man described as a "man driving a white van" who refused to give his name, gave the Sun his opinion:
“The only time they (the protestors) will stop is when the authorities send all these people home.
“Instead, they are giving houses that could go to our own young people to migrants who have no right to be in our country.
“I’ve worked all my life since I was a teenager and paid my taxes.
“But these refugees get everything for free. It makes me and many other people very angry and that’s why these protests aren’t going to end.”
Here's the thing: Our own government, right here in the United States, has done much the same thing, saddling small cities and towns with hundreds or thousands of "asylum seekers," overwhelming the communities, overwhelming their resources, and the taxpayers are expected to pick up the tab. This is happening in places like Springfield, Ohio.

And, we are forced to ask, why? Why are the nations of Europe, as well as the United States, expected to take in and succor these people? Why is it our responsibility to solve all the troubles of the Third World by taking in thousands, even millions of people, housing and feeding them at taxpayer expense? Why is it our responsibility to absorb wave after wave of "refugees," a striking number of whom appear to be young, unattached, military-aged males? Why is it our responsibility to deal with all the crime and social unrest that results from these waves of illegitimate immigration, which have resulted in some European cities having no-go zones where even the police won't venture?
Why?
The people of Thetford are standing up and saying no. But their government isn't listening. And that's the real problem.
