There's a reason people say that the internet is forever, and it's not just teenage stupidity that can come back to haunt someone. Many a political candidate has learned this the hard way when they start their campaigns and then run back to delete old videos on YouTube, TikTok, X/Twitter, or wherever, only to learn to their embarrassment that once it's out there, it's out there. The internet is indeed forever, and now we have learned that the communist candidate for the Michigan United States Senate seat, Abdul El-Sayed, tried to delete some old YouTube videos that may well hurt his minuscule chances of election. The videos in question featured the candidate blasting the Second Amendment while proclaiming that the fireworks we use to celebrate Independence Day "suck." That's not going to win him a lot of votes in rust-belt Michigan, at least not outside of the cities.
The National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) was quick to reply.
Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed once asked his YouTube viewers whether Americans could “PLEASE” find another way to celebrate the Fourth of July, in a video promising four reasons “why fireworks suck.”
The since-removed video from July 2024 included a chapter titled “Fireworks just aren’t worth it: hear us out” and cited Detroit’s post-fireworks air quality, the chemicals used in fireworks, their potential to trigger PTSD in veterans, and the risks they pose to children and pets.
Hint to Mr. El-Sayed: The "Fourth of July" is a date. The holiday is Independence Day, not that he cares a jot about that. Fireworks are worth it, and if those fireworks annoy a far-left whiner like Abdul El-Sayed, then as a veteran myself, I say, bring in some more mortars and let's get this party started!

In other since-removed clips, El-Sayed argued that the southern border was not among Americans’ five biggest concerns and lambasted Republicans for focusing on it. In another he floated replacing the Second Amendment’s right to bear arms with a constitutional right to health care.
First of all, repealing the Second Amendment would require ratification by 38 states. 29 states are constitutional carry states, meaning that residents can carry a concealed handgun that they legally own with no permit or permission required. None of those states are going to ratify such a repeal, leaving only 21 "maybes." Also, Mr. El-Sayed betrays a fundamental misunderstanding as to what a "right" is - it doesn't entitle anyone to anything at the expense of others. Rights are something held by citizens that the government is forbidden to interfere with, including not just our right to bear arms but our rights to freedom of speech, freedom of conscience, and security in our homes and possessions. We have a fundamental right as well to liberty and property, and that means not having the government tax us incessantly to pay for other people's healthcare.
A thing cannot be a "right" if the exercising of that right requires someone else to pick up the tab.
Now, in this deleted video affair, El-Sayed appears to have even lost CNN, and when, as a leftist politician, you've lost CNN, you're in deep doodoo.
The YouTube videos, at least 100 of which appear to have been made private, are another example of how El-Sayed’s years as a prolific podcaster, commentator and social-media user have left behind an extensive record — some of it subsequently deleted — that Republicans could use to portray him as both ideologically left-wing and culturally out of step with swing-state voters.
El-Sayed’s campaign said the old clips do not reflect his current views: “Abdul is the former captain of his high school football team, loves Michigan football on Saturdays, and celebrates the Fourth of July with fireworks like the next Michigander. Cherry-picked comments from old podcasts don’t reflect his beliefs today.”
Yeah, scoundrels always proclaim some miraculous conversion when they are caught with records where they have unintentionally said what they really think.
The simple fact is that Abdul El-Sayed is manifestly unfit to serve in the United States Senate, and that becomes more and more apparent by the day, even to his fellow Democrats. The one thing his long-shot candidacy may demonstrate is that it's one thing for a "democratic socialist" (communist) to win an election in one deep, deep blue urban House district; it's quite another to win a statewide election in a swing state like Michigan.
The current RealClearPolitics polling averages for this race show El-Sayed's Republican opponent, Mike Rogers, pulling ahead. The more that comes out about Abdul El-Sayed, the more we can expect that trend to continue.
