We are living in interesting times, indeed.
There's an old saying in military circles, generally attributed (probably not accurately) to Napoleon Bonaparte: Never interfere with the enemy when he is in the process of destroying himself. That applies to all manner of contests, not just contests of arms, and as we've reported in the last few months, this sure looks like what today's Democrat Party is doing. There's an ongoing tussle between the old school and the new young commies, and now we see another of the old school protesting the wackadoodle wing, noting correctly that they are liable to cost more mainstream Democrats some elections.
That, of course, begs the question: What is the Democrat mainstream these days?
Julian Epstein, who served as the chief legal counsel for House Democrats during the Clinton impeachment hearing and later worked on Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign, made waves last week declaring his support for Republican Mike Rogers over progressive darling Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan's Senate race. He laid out the case in a New York Post op-ed and later spoke to Fox News Digital.
"If you rely on [MS NOW] for news, I think you're basically illiterate and uninformed about what's going on, Epstein told Fox News Digital. "It's less true for CNN, but also true."
It's not often I say this about a Democrat, but, he's right. I actually know people who rely on the legacy media, in particular MS NOW, the once and former MSNBC, for their news reporting - that, or other lefty outfits like CNN or (worse) NPR. Now even those outlets are pulling an Admiral Nelson on the wackadoodle wing of the Democrats, holding their telescopes up to their blind eye and proclaiming, "I see no commies."
Julian Epstein, a Clinton creature, isn't having it.
He claimed the legacy media was covering the Democratic infighting while hinting at the possibility of a civil war down the road, when in reality, "We are in a civil war now."
"I think the news media is missing that, but I think more importantly, they're missing the nature of the extremism that is happening with the left, and they're missing the bigotry that is emerging on the left," Epstein said. "We've seen critical race is basically a permission slip for more bigotries. It's to divide, tell people the most important thing about them is race and then to start building public policy around that. That's what critical race is."
As my colleague Becca Lower reported last Saturday, Epstein is now supporting the Republican candidate in Michigan's Senate race, since the nutbar candidate for the Dems, Democratic Socialist Abdul El-Sayed, has won the Democrat primary.
Just after the primary win on Tuesday for Democratic Socialist Abdul El-Sayed, making him the Dems' Michigan Senate nominee for the November election, a longtime Capitol Hill figure, Julian Epstein, the former chief counsel for the House Judiciary Democrats and the former staff director of the House Oversight Committee, wrote an op-ed in The NY Post:
After decades of giving my all for Democratic House and Senate candidates, this fall I will support — and contribute to — Mike Rogers, Michigan’s GOP Senate nominee, instead.
And I’ll do everything I can to make sure other Democrats follow.
With the exception of Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman, my party’s leaders have sought to appease the dangerous faction rising in our midst.
We should give credit where credit's due: Julian Epstein is calling them like he's seeing them, and he's calling them nuts. What's more, he's right. We've seen no less than Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) bending his neck to the far-left, and he may well be facing a primary challenge himself in 2028, from the darling of the wackadoodle wing - Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14).
Furthermore, Epstein is stating out loud something that not too many elected Democrats have the nerve to say just yet, namely that there isn't a civil war brewing in the Democrat Party; rather, it's already being fought. It's being fought in primaries in deep blue districts, where the "democratic socialist" (communist) wing is winning in primary elections against more legacy mainstream Democrat opponents. Now it's even being waged in statewide races. The Democrats' civil war is here, and the legacy media, as Epstein is justifiably concerned about, is aiding and abetting the rise of the nuts.
Of course, then Epstein gets one thing badly wrong:
The media's heads would be "collectively exploding," he said, if a KKK movement took hold in the Republican Party in the same way "Hamas-aligned supporters" have among Democrats.
Uh, Mr. Epstein: The KKK was all Democrats. Just like the "Hamas-aligned supporters."
