Earlier on Sunday, I related the tale of a conversation with a progressive friend, in which I described the 2024 Democratic presidential candidate, Kamala Harris, thusly: "...she is abrasive, she is inarticulate, and honestly, she's not very bright." She wasn't the first candidate that the Democrats have put forth that was not very bright (John Kerry, I'm looking at you) but that leaves the Dem's 2028 presidential ticket wide open.
Into the breach may be stepping the one candidate who may be even more abrasive, less articulate, and, frankly, dumber, than Kamala Harris: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14) better known as AOC. On Sunday, on ABC's This Week, she had a conversation with host Jonathan Karl wherein she admitted she's thinking about a run for the big chair.
KARL: So, I want to -- we're almost out of time, but get to your future. I'm sure you saw the poll in New Hampshire that had you as the leading candidate, leading choice for Democrats. First, are you going to run for president?
OCASIO-CORTEZ: I mean, I'm focused on winning the midterms. I'm running for Congress right now.
KARL: But, I mean, do you see this as something --
OCASIO-CORTEZ: You know --
KARL: I mean, I know you said you're open to it.
OCASIO-CORTEZ: Yes, I --
KARL: Is it a realistic possibility for you?
OCASIO-CORTEZ: I haven't -- well, I haven't ruled out the possibility. And I'm very humbled to the tremendous amount of support out there. I think that we have a responsibility to remain focused on the midterms and not on our individual aspirations or plans.

Yeah, if the American people still retain an average complement of six or more active brain cells, the possibility will be ruled out for her. But then, nobody ever went broke betting on the fecklessness of the American electorate, who in the past has done some truly gob smacking things, like elect a president with a resume so thin you can read the nutritional information label of a chewing gum stick through it (I'm looking at you, Barack Obama). But the possibility of an AOC presidency should send chills down every American spine. Why? Well, here's why and I'm going to tell you.
First, the woman has all the economic expertise of a Ritz cracker. Oh, I know, she graduated from Boston University in 2011 with degrees in Economics and International Relations, but she should ask for her money back, because the economic portion in particular doesn't seem to have stuck. She's still subscribing to Marxist economics, after all, and Marx's labor theory of value was debunked almost within moments of Das Kapital being printed, most notably by Austrian School economists like Carl Menger, Alfred Marshall, Shimshon Bichler and Jonathan Nitzan. But the problem is this: Very few people are this down in the weeds with economic theory, and socialists/communists are awfully good at promising the voters a never-ending gravy train of free stuff. It's hard to run against Santa Claus.
Second, when Joe Biden was president, the other nations of the world, especially those who were not friendly to the United States, looked on the American government with, as Shakespeare might have put it, slight regard. But a President Ocasio-Cortez? Russia, China, North Korea and Iran would look on her with gales of laughter followed by derision. She's not a serious person, and she wouldn't be a serious president. It would be a dream come true for every dictator and despot hostile to the United States.
Third and finally, the country under an AOC presidency would be divided as never before. The far-left would feel emboldened to do anything they please, including chucking the Constitution into a trash can and setting it on fire. The Great Sorting would be kicked into overdrive. Energy prices, under President AOC's turbocharged Green New Deal, would skyrocket. The economy would crash.
Fortunately, it's pretty certain that an AOC candidacy is a long shot, and if she managed to win the nomination, she'd probably go down in flames. Imagine any Republican, be it JD Vance, Marco Rubio, Ron DeSantis, or parties as yet unknown, in a televised debate against this midwit.
The problem is that, for the past few years, American politics have been anything but predictable. In 2015, when Donald Trump came down the golden escalator and announced his first presidential bid, I thought it was a publicity stunt. It wasn't - and he has changed everything. And, in politics as in physics, for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. Jimmy Carter's failed presidency gave us the successes of Ronald Reagan. Could Trump's successes give us the failure of a Democratic Socialist - a commie president?
If I were a betting man, I'd bet against any chance of that. But I wouldn't bet very much.
