Watch: Trump Fields Iran Questions, Claims 'We've Been Very Nice'

On Tuesday, President Donald Trump welcomed the President of Lebanon, Joseph Aoun, to the White House for a series of discussions. During a presser held in the White House, both presidents took a number of questions from the media; some of the questions had to do, understandably, with Iran and Iran's proxies, some of which operate in Lebanon.

First, on Iran, President Trump has some very direct comments.

In the first comment, the president said:

And we will, absolutely, attack the new (nuclear) site that they're talking about. I mean, how about these people? They're in this because of nuclear weapons, and they are trying to, possibly, reconstitute a site. We'll hit that site. Any site, where they are even thinking about nuclear, we'll be hitting it, very powerfully. Now, nobody knows except the Iranians, about the damage that we've done to them. We have done damage that will take them 20-25 years for them to recover from. So, if we left tomorrow, we had a big success. But we're not leaving tomorrow.

He wasn't finished:

If we left today, it would take them decades to rebuild. And I don't believe they could ever rebuild, and honestly, they haven't seen anything yet. We've been nice. We've been nice.

That's a pretty clear call from the president: We aren't finished working Iran over yet.

In another rather surprising note, President Trump indicated he would be open to talks with Hezbollah; that's interesting indeed since the President of Lebanon, in which Hezbollah operates, was sitting right there.

The president said:

I would speak to Hezbollah, yeah. I speak to everybody. I'll speak to people that a lot of people think I shouldn't speak to, and things work out. (inaudible questions) I will say this; if the president (of Lebanon) wanted me to speak to Hezbollah, you know, he's lived with Hezbollah for a long time. And if the president wanted me to speak to Hezbollah, I would.

The old saying, "It's better to jaw, jaw, than to war, war," might apply here, but the same caution applies to Hezbollah that applies to their sponsors and enablers, Iran; they cannot be trusted. They never will be trustworthy. They never will be honest. When you're dealing with a venomous reptile, you must remember the nature of the beast.

Finally, on Iran, the Secretary of War chimed in:

And the president has all the options necessary. If they want to talk, they can talk. Otherwise, they can deal with the War Department, and we're ready.

That has certainly been the practice to date; Iran finds itself in a war of logistics, and in that war, it can't compete with the United States.
