Republican Representative Wesley Hunt (TX-38) is an up-and-coming Republican politico. He's a West Point graduate, served as an Army officer, and he's sharp as a tack, and he's adept at handling the media. I've interviewed him, and he is impressive.
He's also adept at rhetorically defenestrating his colleagues on the left when they say something dumb, which is something Democrat Representative Jasmine Crockett (TX-30) (for now) does with amazing regularity. On Friday, a video clip showed Rep. Hunt responding to a question about Rep. Crockett's claim that voter ID requirements were a "poll tax."
Here, watch:

Watch Rep. Hunt's body language and his solid approach to the answer. This is a man who has all the cards in this particular discussion, and what's more, he knows it.
Question: Jasmine Crockett said that voter ID was like a poll tax. What are your thoughts on that?
Rep. Wesley Hunt: Voter ID is like a poll tax? Let me tell you something. I have a very big family, and my family is all black, and every single member of my family has what? A form of an ID that can allow you to vote in an election. I have a three-year-old little boy. I have a five-year-old daughter and a seven-year-old daughter. You want to know what the first thing they were given when they were born? A birth certificate and a Social Security number. So if you think this is a poll tax, again, it's the dog-whistling back to this Jim Crow 2.0 argument that I have already proven is null and void; it doesn't exist today. "It's time to move on. The days of the poll tax and the days of Jim Crow are over.
Jasmine Crockett, we are forced to admit, is utterly reliable in one respect: Every time she opens her mouth, something stupid comes out.

GOP Rep. Wesley Hunt Crushes the Dem Narrative on Media Question About SCOTUS VRA Decision
Democrats from Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) on down are leaning in hard on this "Jim Crow 2.0" argument, and it's sure not going to help them make their case. The Democrats, on voter ID laws, are catastrophically on the wrong side of the issue; this is something that Americans overwhelmingly favor. Some recent surveys:
Pew: Requiring all voters to show government-issued photo ID to vote: 83 percent favor, including 95 percent of Republicans, and 71 percent of Democrats.
Gallup: 84 percent of Americans favor requiring photo ID at the polling place; 83 percent support requiring proof of citizenship to register.
Rasmussen: 77 percent of likely voters say requiring photo ID to vote is a reasonable measure to protect the integrity of elections.
This is a losing issue for Democrats. But they seem insistent on keeping this line of argument going, and in 2026, it's going to hurt them - the only question is, how much?
Editor's Note: The Democrat Party has never been less popular as voters reject its globalist agenda.
