Redistrict Now: South Carolina Conservatives Battle RINO Holdouts

I've never been a big fan of the term RINO (Republican In Name Only). It's used, all too often, to mean "Any Republican with whom I disagree on any single given issue." One thing we have to admit, Democrats are better at than Republicans is that they stick together. That's probably inevitable; they have a much more collectivist mindset, whereas getting a group of Republicans to align on a given issue or agenda is often the very definition of herding cats.

But sometimes the RINO label is warranted, right now, in South Carolina, where yet another redistricting fight is underway, a group of squishes in the state Senate is determined to gum up the works and hand the Democrats an advantage. Former Representative Adam Morgan isn't shy about naming names.

Here's the entire post:

BREAKING: 5 South Carolina senate GOP holdouts left! 4 Republican NO votes would kill redistricting. 🔔contact them & get the word out!

This isn't doxxing or anything of the sort, of course; these people are elected officials, and their office numbers and emails are public record.

Mr. Morgan notes that the South Carolina House of Representatives is still in the fight.

That's where it stands, as of Wednesday. Here's the question: Why are these Republicans doing this? We have a chance at a historic reshuffling here. The Supreme Court opened a door when it tossed out race-based redistricting, and we should be grabbing it with both hands. Democrats have been playing dirty in this matter for years; just look at the district map for Illinois, for example. It's way past time that Republicans stopped trying to be all collegial and even-handed and got down in the trenches. Missouri has figured that out, as has Texas, and Florida, and a bunch of other red states.

But South Carolina's Republican Senate Majority Leader, Shane Massey (SC-25), seems to think that the best way for Republicans to oppose Democrats is for those Republicans to repeatedly punch themselves in the face. That just doesn't make sense. And, likely as a result of that, the calls for primarying the GOP holdouts have already begun.

The post reads:

HOLY CRAP!! South Carolina Senate Leader Shane Massey (R) blocked 2026 redistricting because, HIS WORDS: "South Carolina is stronger" when "we have a vibrant and viable Democratic Party"

Trump won his district by 34 POINTS.

PRIMARY HIM OUT!

He actually said: “South Carolina is stronger when we have a vibrant Democratic Party.”

His excuse? "Competition makes you better."

WHAT?!

The "competition" where Democrats SHUT DOWN DHS? Defund the border? Allow the invasion of millions of foreign invaders who r*pe and pillage?

I am NOT interested in handing those traitors a win. Primary Shane Massey!

The fight is not over, redistricting can STILL pass.

Competition makes you better? Well, that's not a completely invalid point. Contending against an opponent, or several opponents, can sharpen one's oratory, one's ability to think on one's feet, and so on. That's in no small part why Kamala Harris turned in such a horrible performance in the 2024 election; she had never engaged an opponent, much less one as fiery and unrelenting as Donald Trump.

But this isn't the time for that. This is the time to fight dirty. The Democrats are. They have told us they are, and they mean it. We need to take every seat. We need to close off every Democrat district we can. We need to do this, for the good of the republic, because if we don't, don't think for a minute that Democrats will go all collegial and "competition makes us better" on us, because they won't.

We need to match them. We need to beat them. And redistricting is part of how we can do that. So, come on, South Carolina, let's get this done.
