There's very little doubt that, starting with Donald Trump descending the golden escalator in 2015 to announce his candidacy for President of the United States as a Republican, the old machinery of national Democratic apparatchiks was aligned against him. There's very little doubt that this was one of the biggest lawfare operations in the history of the republic. Trump wasn't part of the machine; he was an outsider, a potential bull in the china shop - and that last part, he has certainly lived up to.
Now Attorney General Pam Bondi has asked federal prosecutors to look into this unprecedented lawfare.
Attorney General Pam Bondi told Just the News that she has asked prosecutors to investigate the Obama-Biden era of lawfare as an ongoing election-meddling conspiracy that protected Democrats from criminal investigation and infringed the civil rights of Republicans like President Donald Trump and his supporters.
Recovering from eye surgery, Bondi made the revelation in written answers Sunday to questions submitted by Just the News, signaling she agrees with FBI Director Kash Patel, who earlier this year penned a memo predicating an investigation looking at the weaponization of intelligence of law-enforcement powers dating to the Russia collusion case as an ongoing conspiracy.
Not only that, but the federal government actively ran interference in investigations against, for example, Hillary Clinton.

Such an approach allows prosecutors to charge defendants with alleged crimes outside the statute of limitations because they were connected to an ongoing conspiracy, much like those cases brought against the mafia and drug cartels.
"At my direction, our U.S. Attorneys and federal agents are actively investigating instances of government weaponization nationwide," Bondi said. "This is a ten-year stain on the country committed by high-ranking officials against the American people.
Here's the question: What, in the end, can we expect out of all this? The answer, sadly, is likely to be "not much." AG Bondi may well be sincere in her directive, but once the directive is issued, it falls into the purview of career bureaucrats and holdover political appointees.
Oh, some mid-level people from the Obama and Biden administrations may come under scrutiny. Some may even face charges. But, satisfying as it would be to see Hillary Clinton, Hunter (or Joe) Biden, or even Barack Obama doing a handcuffed perp-walk down to an FBI paddy wagon, that's not going to happen. In the end, that's going to be an apple cart nobody wants to see upended.
The swamp is dark and deep, and it seems almost everyone in Washington has its tendrils embedded in them somewhere.

But it's been unusually nasty in the Age of Trump, and while this effort may nibble away at some of the edges of this nastiness, we shouldn't expect any sudden return to collegiality and reasonable discourse any time soon.
