Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who will let you walk if you assault someone but will charge you if you defend yourself, spent over a year and a half and untold millions prosecuting then-private citizen Donald Trump on 34 legally dubious felony counts of falsifying business records. Trump was convicted on them all.
Bragg was more interested in that nonsense, all while this was going on:

On late Monday night, however, Trump struck back and filed an appeal with New York’s Appellate Division demanding that the verdict be thrown out because it was the "most politically charged prosecution in our Nation’s history."
In the 111-page (some sources cite a 96-page) filing, Trump’s lawyers called Bragg’s antics “Radical Democrat Lawfare.”
"President Trump’s legal team filed a powerhouse appeal in the Manhattan DA’s Witch Hunt, as the President continues his fight to put an end to the Radical Democrat Lawfare once and for all," a spokesman for the president’s legal team told Fox News Digital.
"The Supreme Court’s historic decision on Immunity, the Federal and New York State Constitutions, and other established legal precedent mandate that this meritless hoax be immediately overturned and dismissed," the Trump spokesman continued.
"President Trump will keep defeating Democrat weaponization at every turn as he focused on his singular mission to Make America Great Again."
GOP Rep. Claudia Tenney (NY-24) agreed:

Bragg’s case was highly suspect from the start and involved supposed “hush money” payments to a former adult film star. Such payments are not inherently illegal, and happen all the time in corporations where NDAs (non-disclosure agreements) are common, but Bragg tried to make Trump look like some sort of La Cosa Nostra gangster:
District Attorney Alvin Bragg argued that those payments violated New York’s statute against falsification of business records. Such falsifications are usually punished as misdemeanors, but Mr. Bragg contended that since they were transacted in the service of an unspecified second crime they amounted to felonies. Judge Merchan ruled that such a prosecutorial approach was valid and that jurors need not agree on the second crime to convict.
The Democrats are now whining incessantly about Trump’s supposed weaponization of justice, but they stood by while this banana republic type of stuff went on, along with New York Attorney General Letitia James' obsession with getting the real estate magnate for victimless “crimes,” disgraced Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis' corruption-ridden case against him for supposedly trying to overturn the 2020 election results, and former Special Counsel Jack Smith’s Don Quixote-like mission to nail Trump on classified documents mismanagement and election interference.

Now that folks like former National Security Advisor John Bolton, Letitia James, and former FBI Director James Comey are the ones being investigated, they don’t like it so much. Too bad you already sold out your soul to get Trump; you deserve no sympathy.
Appeals before the appellate court can take as long as 18-24 months. Given that it’s deep blue New York, it’s anybody’s guess if Trump can get these ridiculous 34 counts thrown out, but as Jim Carrey’s character Lloyd Christmas said in the movie Dumb and Dumber, "So you're telling me there's a chance…”
