Sometimes it seems like a constitutional amendment requiring an IQ test with a minimum score required for election to Congress would be a good idea.
Oh, who am I kidding? You can scratch the "sometimes" from that. Case in point: Representative Pramila Jayapal (D-WA), the predictable "woke" croaker, who clearly doesn't understand the difference between "climate change" and the seasons. Get a load of this:
This is climate change. pic.twitter.com/ofWTySpMOH

Congresswoman (yes, I'm presuming your gender) Jayapal, let me explain a couple of things: Earth has this thing called "seasons." With those "seasons" comes a phenomenon we like to call "weather." One of these seasons is "summer," which we are in now, having passed the summer solstice last week. In "summer," over most of the northern hemisphere, the weather is warm, sometimes even hot.
That's what you're seeing here, Congresswoman. Not climate change. Weather. Also, since you clearly didn't take too close a look at the map you posted, you obviously didn't note that west of the Mississippi, most of the recorded temperatures were below average - including in your own Washington state.
One more thing: You can't claim "climate change" is responsible for a point measurement. "Change," you know, the actual word "change" implies movement over time; there's no change in a point reading.
To put it bluntly, Congresswoman, you simply have no idea what you're talking about.
Some of the replies on X were golden:
Probably we should give all of the power to Washington so they can outlaw seasons

Forget the Constitution, this one would go against Mother Nature. Fortunately, we can be sure the suggestion is sarcasm. Speaking of which:
Yeah because temps have never hit 90 degrees in summer before
— DC_Draino (@DC_Draino) June 26, 2025
🤡🫵🏻
Of course not! We must immediately surrender our modern, technological lifestyle and return to a mid-19th-century way of life to prevent any further recurrence of 90-degree temperatures. (Yes, that is also sarcasm.)
Scientists agree the climate is now shifting four times a year, WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING
— George Alexopoulos (@GPrime85) June 27, 2025
Yup, more sarcasm. And that's all too the good; Rep. Jayapal's claim here is not serious, she is not a serious person, and there's no reason to take her seriously. Sometimes pointing and laughing is the appropriate response, and this is one of those times.

It's called summer. Is that hard for you?
Look it up.
We are in a cool cycle. pic.twitter.com/dPxczpaKDU
This, of course, is climate change, on the geographic time scale, showing that we are in fact in a cool cycle. A little perspective is in order here; I've never denied that climate change happens, it always has, and it always will. Through most of our planet's history, it's been warmer than it is now. There are many factors influencing climate, so many that we will likely never understand them all. Do humans have an impact? Yes. Everything does. Is our impact enough to make it worth doing what Representative Jayapal would have us do, to stamp the brakes on our modern technological lifestyles? It most assuredly is not.
Fortunately, this seems to be the caliber of the opposition: A science-illiterate who doesn't understand that the plural of "anecdote" is not "data."
