A Medal of Honor recipient is looking for a date to the Marine Corps ball and has set himself a lofty goal: he wants to take Indiana Fever megastar Sophie Cunningham. And social media is rallying behind him.
Dakota Meyer, who received the Medal of Honor from President Barack Obama back in 2011, decided to have some fun with his dream date quest by putting it out on X for all to see, even tagging Cunningham. Meyer didn't say which of the many Marine Corps balls held each year he had in mind, but it's likely to be one taking place around the Corps' November 10th birthday.
That gives him a few months to pull it off.

Hey, why not? Plenty of folks have found love on social media, and you don't make the shots you don't take.
Meyer's followers loved the idea, and offers of help started to pour in. Robert O'Neill, a former SEAL Team Six member who was involved in the killing of Osama bin Laden, offered to drive the pair.

There was a definite "let's make this happen" vibe in response to his post, with most encouraging him not to give up and one person even saying a date between the two sounded like a movie script. There's something to that, actually.
Meyer, 38, was awarded the Medal of Honor for his extraordinary heroism during the Battle of Ganjgal in Afghanistan on September 8, 2009. He earned the honor for repeatedly charging into a Taliban ambush, helping to save 36 American and Afghan troops and recover the bodies of four fallen U.S. servicemen.
And Cunningham (who turns 30 next week), of course, has become one of the WNBA’s biggest breakout stars, thanks as much to her outspoken personality and willingness to buck the league’s progressive politics as to her play on the court.
It doesn't get more all-American than that.
Besides the obvious reasons for wanting a date with Sophie Cunningham, Meyer recently revealed his admiration for those, like Cunningham, who are willing to speak out to protect girls in sports.

Meyer gave a funny update Friday morning, saying an AI agent had informed him he's too short for Cunningham, who stands an impressive 6-foot-1.

After a long week of socialists and Faucis dominating the news, it's nice to see a story pop that is nothing but wholesome fun. It's also a good reminder that social media can sometimes be a force for good.
As of this writing, Cunningham does not seem to have responded to Meyer's invitation, but come on, Sophie – the man has already survived the Taliban, don't make him sweat this one out.
