DOJ Launches Probe Into Fairfax DA Who Seems to Give Preferential Treatment to Violent Illegals

Things are really popping off in the Commonwealth of Virginia on this Wednesday, with one prominent Democrat state senator being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and one county's George Soros-funded prosecutor finding himself the subject of a probe by the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice (DOJ).

As RedState reported earlier Wednesday, the Portsmouth offices of Senator Louise Lucas – the Democrat pro tempore of the state Senate and architect of the gerrymandered congressional map now under the scrutiny of the Virginia Supreme Court – were raided by the FBI "in connection to a major corruption probe." The raid included several cannabis dispensaries in the area; Lucas, when she's not gerrymandering maps, owns a weed shop of her own.

Following the news of the FBI raid, the DOJ said "hold my beer" and announced they were launching an investigation into the sentencing practices of Fairfax County Commonwealth's Attorney Steve Descano, who seems to have developed a pattern of going light on illegal aliens who run afoul of the law. Worryingly for residents, some of the worst criminals seemed to have gotten the lightest sentences.

Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon said of the investigation, “Under my leadership, the Civil Rights Division will not allow local prosecutors to pick and choose winners based on their immigration status." She added, “This investigation will uncover whether this prosecutor is putting the community at risk in offering sweetheart deals to illegal immigrants charged with serious crimes.”

NEW from DOJ: the Justice Department notified the Fairfax County, Virginia Commonwealth’s Attorney Steve Descano of the initiation of a federal investigation into the Commonwealth’s Attorney Plea Bargaining, Charging Decisions, and Sentencing Policy.

The Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division will investigate whether the Office of the Fairfax Commonwealth’s Attorney discriminated against United States citizens by offering preferential treatment only to illegal alien criminal defendants.

“Under my leadership, the Civil Rights Division will not allow local prosecutors to pick and choose winners based on their immigration status,” said Assistant Attorney General Harmeet K. Dhillon of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division. “This investigation will uncover whether this prosecutor is putting the community at risk in offering sweetheart deals to illegal immigrants charged with serious crimes.”

Regular readers of RedState will be very familiar with Steve Descano and the consequences of his "holistic" sentencing practices. He came onto our radar after a video of an illegal being arrested in D.C. went viral and it turned out Descano had failed to prosecute the illegal for sexually assaulting a minor.

Everyone who's not a Democrat was left wondering why this guy was free to roam the streets of D.C. The answer? Steve Descano, commonwealth's attorney for Fairfax County, Virginia, George Soros lackey, and friend to violent illegals. Descano has an appalling record of failing to prosecute violent criminals, and there seems to be a trend of him turning a blind eye to crime committed by illegals.

Unfortunately, that was just scratching the surface of Descano's many prosecutorial failures when it came to violent illegals. One of the more tragic consequences of Descano's lax sentencing was the death of Virginia mother Stephanie Minter, who was murdered at a Fairfax County bus shelter, allegedly at the hands of an illegal from Sierra Leone. The kicker was that Descano had let the illegal walk more than 30 times for offenses that ranged from theft to sexual assault.

The DOJ has now informed Mr. Descano that he is being investigated "under various statutes, including Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Safe Streets Act, and law enforcement misconduct statute 34 U.S.C. § 12601." In response to a tweet detailing the action being taken by her office, Harmeet Dhillon responded, "This is not ok! I have reason to believe other woke DAs are doing this, and we will investigate and take legal action if justified!"
