There is some fresh polling in the Virginia governor's race, and it's chock full of good news for Republican Winsome Earle-Sears. Back in May, a Roanoke College poll showed Earle-Sears trailing her Democrat opponent, Abigail Spanberger, by a whopping 17 points. This new Roanoke College poll, conducted between August 11 and August 15, indicates Earle-Sears has made up an impressive 10 percentage points and now trails by only seven points.
As a reminder, Virginia's current governor, Republican Glenn Youngkin, cannot run for consecutive terms, so he has to sit this one out. (Youngkin isn't totally sitting things out, though; he recently headlined a high-profile GOP event in the early primary state of South Carolina. Make of that what you will.)

There's clearly still a lot work to be done as the campaign enters the final few months, with early in-person voting set to begin September 19. The entire Republican ticket, including incumbent Attorney General Jason Miyares, is polling behind their Democrat opponents, but that can partially be explained away by the August doldrums. Voters likely won't start paying close attention until after Labor Day, and that's when they'll see how radical the Democrat slate truly is.
And that's especially true for Abigail Spanberger, the Deep State darling. There are ample reasons why she finds that her campaign is in a death spiral—it could be her refusal to condemn a fellow Democrat for making antisemitic remarks or the fact that many of her senior staff are neck-deep in a defamation case—but we'll focus on just two things.
First, she is Joe Biden in heels. Remember how the Biden of 2020 ran an entire presidential campaign from the safety of his basement? That's Spanberger. She's not confined to a basement, of course, but she's made herself inaccessible to all but the friendliest of media. She won't answer any hard questions, preferring to duck and weave around the issues important to voters, and finally, after much stonewalling, agreed to a debate with Earle-Sears.
That leads to the second point: she isn't talking because she's on the wrong side of the stories galvanizing the residents of Northern Virginia, a Democrat stronghold. As RedState has been reporting, there is a serious allegation being made that an employee of a Fairfax County public high school arranged and paid for abortions for at least two underage students. The accusation is so serious that Governor Youngkin has launched a criminal investigation into the matter. Not a word from Spanberger.
There's also the growing scandal in Loudoun County Public Schools stemming from officials punishing two high school boys for complaining after a girl began using the boys' locker room ... and took a video of the boys on her cell phone. She faces no consequences for her actions (and can keep using the boys' space because she thinks she's a boy), but the boys will likely be suspended and have this incident on their permanent academic record. Again, Spanberger is mum.
Oh, and this photo that's been making the rounds the last few days certainly doesn't help her in the popularity stakes. That's Spanberger, who has framed herself as a tough-as-nails former CIA officer, in the House chamber on January 6, 2021. She was a congresswoman at the time.

Winsome Earle-Sears has the momentum with just weeks to go before Virginians start casting ballots. The contrast between her and Abigail Spanberger couldn’t be sharper: Spanberger is hiding behind handlers and dodging accountability, while Winsome Earle-Sears is out front, fighting for parents, students, and taxpayers. The tide is turning.
