The Senate Is Out for Robert Kennedy Over Monarez Firing, CDC Resignations

In the meantime, Kennedy stands firm in the decisions he made on these matters as well as his focus on doing actual investigation of root causes, not just putting up window dressing for political purposes or adhering Band-Aids over chronic wounds.

No one with an IQ above room temperature considered that post to be anything other than parody – yet the scolds in Sacramento thought that restricting speech was a great idea.

Anti-gunners, contrary to what they might tell you, don't care about saving lives. It's not about that. It's never about that.

WHAT'S ON TAP?

Today on Capitol Hill...

They're ba-ack...That's right — the critters are officially back in session, though, they're easing into things with only two meetings formally set on the Hill for Tuesday:

  • House Rules — H.J. Res. 104 – Providing for congressional disapproval under chapter 8 of title 5, United States Code, of the rule submitted by the Bureau of Land Management relating to ‘‘Miles City Field Office Record of Decision and Approved Resource Management Plan Amendment’’.; H.J. Res. 105 – Providing for congressional disapproval under chapter 8 of title 5, United States Code, of the rule submitted by the Bureau of Land Management relating to “North Dakota Field Office Record of Decision and Approved Resource Management Plan”.; H.J. Res. 106 - Providing for congressional disapproval under chapter 8 of title 5, United States Code, of the rule submitted by the Bureau of Land Management relating to ‘‘Central Yukon Record of Decision and Approved Resource Management Plan’’.; H.R. 4553 - Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2026
  • House Appropriations — Fiscal Year 2026 Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies Bill

Note — the Rules Committee meeting, in addition to focusing on disapproval of several BLM rules, will address energy and water development appropriations, and the other meeting is also on appropriations. Unless you're someone who adores following the nitty-gritty on appropriations fights, this might be a good time to mute the terms "appropriations" and "shutdown" on your social media accounts. Because that's pretty much what we'll be hearing/reading about wall-to-wall for the next four weeks.

White House What's Up

The only thing on President Donald Trump's formal schedule for Tuesday is an announcement he plans to make from the Oval Office at 2:00 PM Eastern.

On Monday, the White House X account shared a video of the president's advice (11 Life-Changing Lessons) to graduates:

Full Court Press...

The courts were largely quiet on Monday, observing the holiday, though the parties continued to file (at the behest of D.C. District Judge Sparkle Sooknanan) regular status reports as to the dozen or so Guatemalan minors caught up in the tussle over whether the government can/should return them to their native country. We will almost certainly continue to see a bunch of back-and-forth on the L.G.M.L. case this week.

And while the Supreme Court doesn't commence its 2025 term until October 6, I expect we'll see a few more moves on its part on the emergency docket front.

Trial in the Ryan Routh (attempted assassination) case is set to start next Monday. Routh is now representing himself, so expect there to be some associated oddness.

COMING ATTRACTIONS

As noted above, President Trump is set to make an announcement this afternoon. Will it be one of those "Oh, well, yeah" type of announcements? Or one that prompts Dems/the Left to light their hair on fire? Stay tuned.

MORNING MUSING

We've gotten so used to a 24/7 wild ride of a news cycle that it feels rather weird when we actually have a "quiet" news day (or days), but, for the most part, we did over the Labor Day weekend. That's a bit of a double-edged sword as it brings welcome respite, but if you're a news junkie like me, there's a certain amount of anxiety that attends that lull — wondering when the next big shoe will drop.

It makes me wonder what we (the media and the online set) will do once President Trump bids farewell to the Oval Office and rides off on his golf car into the sunset. There's still a whole lot of real estate left in his second term, but there will come a time when Trump moves on, and he's been such a focal point of the news cycle for so long, it really does make me wonder how the media complex will adapt to that moment. (Not to mention those who fuel their existence via white-hot burning hatred for the man.)

I guess we won't know until we get there, but contemplating it does remind me of the importance of looking for focal points outside/beyond the political maelstrom from time to time.

I've never thought of buffaloes as "cute" before, but my mind has been changed.
