TOP O' THE MORNIN'

MSNBC Gets Bad News on Ratings and Comcast Move That's a Joy to Read

At this point, what MSNBC should do is reevaluate their whole approach, but they're so used to pitching nonsense I don't think they can dig their way out from under it.

The 'Great One' Freaks Out Canadians, Social Media Wimps by Showing Up at Trump Election Eve Celebration

Yeah, whatever. Good for the Great One and his family, and for all the haters, get over yourselves. He’s right, and you’re wrong.

Trump Taps Billionaire Hedge Fund Manager to Lead Treasury Department

Bessent is a known quantity on Wall Street and has Trump's trust. Those qualities, in combination, promise a swift end to the stagflation of Bidenomics.

WHAT'S ON TAP?

Today on Capitol Hill...

After causing a flap over excluding Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) and Dave McCormick (R-PA) from Senate orientation, Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has relented and extended an invite to both. Gallego's race against Republican Kari Lake has been formally called. McCormick's is still being litigated, though he leads by 35,000 votes with 95+ percent of the vote counted, and the incumbent, Sen. Bob Casey (D), is refusing to concede.

While the last six House races have yet to be called, the GOP has clinched the majority and currently sits at 219 seats (with a likely pick-up of one or two more).

White House What's Up

President Joe Biden (69 days and counting) is set to meet with Israeli President Isaac Herzog at the White House on Tuesday morning. After that, Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris are scheduled to have lunch. (Wouldn't you love to be a fly in that soup on that wall?) In the afternoon, Biden is set to meet with President Prabowo Subianto of Indonesia.

Full Court Press...

Today's the day: Judge Juan Merchan is set to issue his ruling on the presidential immunity issue and what, if any, impact that will have on the guilty verdict in President-elect Donald Trump's Manhattan case. We could also hear from the New York appellate court regarding the civil fraud appeal. (I'm not holding my breath on that one anymore, but who knows?)

MORNING MUSING

One of the undersold perks of Trump regaining the presidency during the campaign, in my view, was the fun of him stocking his cabinet. The expectation was there, of course, but not so much the anticipation as the focus was on getting him the win first. (No one wants to jinx things by placing the cart before the horse.) Now that we're here, though, and he's announcing his picks fast and furious, it's been rather gratifying. I may not love each and every pick, but that's okay. They're all a damn sight better than what we have in the Biden administration. And frankly, I like most of them and will reserve judgment on the ones I'm not over the moon about. Either way, it's nice to be having this discussion rather than contemplating how we'll endure four years of a Harris administration.
