It has often been said that President Donald Trump brings out the absolute worst in his leftist critics, and that has certainly proven true over the last 24 hours or so as inaugural gatherings continue and leaderless, angry Democrats struggle to cope with the reality that they have failed and failed miserably.
Case in point, Mariann Budde, a notoriously anti-Trump Episcopalian bishop at the Washington National Cathedral who decided to play politics during the National Prayer Service Tuesday by lecturing Trump and Vice President JD Vance on LGBTQ-related and illegal immigration issues.
As we reported, here's some of what she said during the service:
And the people, the people who pick our crops and clean our office buildings, who labor in poultry farms and meat-packing plants, who wash the dishes after we eat in restaurants, they, they may not be citizens or have the proper documentation, but the vast majority of immigrants are not criminals. They pay taxes and are good neighbors.
Trump and Vance, of course, were not remotely amused, and the looks on their faces - especially Vance's - spoke volumes about what they were likely thinking:
🚨NEW: Trump, Melania, JD Vance, and Usha were indirectly dressed down by Bishop Budde at the National Prayer Service -- instead of an uplifting sermon it was a long-winded reprimand of Trump's actions and shaming him for his admin's goals. It was a politically weaponized service pic.twitter.com/1FvSEz9BEj

Someone else who was not amused was first-term Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-OH), a Colombia-born immigrant who took to the Twitter/X machine to blast both Budde and the lecture she gave:
As a Catholic & legal immigrant, it's outrageous that some woke Bishop would lecture President Tump about deporting illegals. It's an insult to all of us who came to this country the right way.
If you don't have borders, then you don't have a country.

We haven't heard much from Moreno since he was sworn in, but that was certainly a good start.
Here's what's going to happen: Just as she did after the St. John's Episcopal Church nursery was set on fire, allegedly by Antifa/Black Lives Matters-led wacktivists, in the spring of 2020 - which she at the time blamed Trump for, Budde is going to get her moment to shine in the media spotlight in the usual places like PBS and probably MSNBC.
But what she has, in effect, done is to make things much worse for Democrats because this is the type of tiresome woke pablum that voters soundly rejected on Election Day, and the "rally 'round" effect her comments are going to inspire among leftists will only exacerbate their myriad issues when it comes to trying to connect with average American voters.
I'm the last one who is going to stand in the way while my political opposition is self-destructing but dang - talk about tone-deaf! Good grief.
