Okay, I'll admit it. Way back in my (much) younger days when I was a foolish leftist, I thought celebrity endorsements of candidates for public office were pretty close to one of the coolest things since sliced bread.
It might have been because the first presidential candidate I ever voted for was Bill Clinton in 1992 (please don't judge - again, remember "young and foolish") and singers/actors who I liked were walking barefoot over broken glass to shower him with praise and endorsements, to appear next to him, all of which seemingly confirmed my own rose-glasses opinion of the Bubster at the time.
Thankfully, within a couple of years, I turned to the "dark side" and never once looked back. And over time thanks in part to the sheer obnoxiousness and arrogance of left-wing celebrities as well my political maturing process, celebrity endorsements came to rank somewhere down close to Fran Tarkenton infomercials on my list of things I cared to see.
Nowadays, celebrity endorsements of all political stripes seem to be given more importance than perhaps they ever have thanks to things like social media, where woke entertainers in particular work to reach even larger numbers of people by trying to virtue signal their way into their hearts and minds. And when that can't be done is when the insults start flying.
But it's also thanks to social media that their sheer vapidness shines through, especially when celebrities on the right who refuse to be bullied into silence sometimes take them on. Then, it's popcorn time.
With all of that in mind, we turn to award-winning actress/comedienne Ruth Buzzi of "Laugh-In" (1968-1973) fame.
Buzzi, a native Rhode Islander who calls Texas home now, is 87 years old and retired, and though she suffered several "devastating strokes" in the summer of 2022, she still gives interviews, most recently with the Dallas Morning News, which reported in August that Buzzi sometimes "struggled to speak" because of dementia. "But the next day, she responded to questions over the phone," they also reported at the time.
Ms. Buzzi also occasionally posts to Twitter, either through her husband, Kent Perkins, or herself depending on how her day might be going.
On Tuesday, the irrepressible Buzzi took to the Twitter machine to provide a very timely reminder regarding the so-called importance of celebrity endorsements:
Lots of my famous friends won’t agree, but being a celebrity gives me neither the credibility nor any special authority to tell anybody else how to vote.

My job for over half a century was to entertain you to the very best of my ability — and I tried my hardest to do that.
Not only did she do exactly what she set out to do in the entertainment world, but she's still doling out words of wisdom after all this time. Not really a "shut up and sing" take from her, but a "don't exaggerate your importance" take to self-important types in Hollyweird.
A tip of the hat to you, ma'am. Thank you. Job well done.
