President Joe Biden’s flubs, gaffes, faux pas, inappropriate comments, whatever you want to call them have been well-documented by this site and others, but today he said something during a stop in Michigan that may take the cake.
Per local news reports, Biden traveled to the state to promote his spending priorities, including the stalled infrastructure bill and the reconciliation bill. MLive sets the scene:
Biden’s first stop on a cross-country tour brought him to a union training center in Howell. The president spoke to an outdoor crowd of under 50 attendees, including Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, Democratic House members and local officials, while standing in front of construction equipment behind the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 324 training center.
Surrounded by construction equipment, Biden spoke for nearly 40 minutes to the small crowd in attendance. But after he was introduced, he made some rather strange remarks about Gov. Whitmer and her Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist. It doesn’t appear that Gilchrist was there for Biden’s speech, and after he hears what Biden said about him he’ll probably be glad he wasn’t.
“Of course it’s great to be here with my friend, we’ve become friends,” Biden began, referring to Whitmer. “An outstanding Governor, one of the best Governors in the United States of America and her Lieutenant Governor, who covers her in every way both in terms of physically and mentally and every other way. And thank you for all you did to help me get elected, I really mean it. Thank you, thank you, thank you.”

First things first: Whitmer being an “outstanding Governor” is a highly debatable point, which my RedState colleague Thomas LaDuke would eagerly point out.
Secondly, in what specific ways exactly is Gilchrist “covering” for Whitmer “in every way physically, mentally, and every other way”? Enquiring minds truly want to know (or maybe we don’t, depending on “the ways”).
In any event, Biden’s bizarre comments today provide us with yet another reminder of why his handlers prefer to either keep him in the basement or keep him from answering questions during public appearances, because he tends to embarrass himself and those around him when he begins to speak.
Prior to his speech in Howell, Biden was greeted by hundreds of protesters who proceeded to chant “F*** Joe Biden,” which has emerged as a thing in recent weeks at sporting events and the like.
Biden briefly mentioned them in his speech:
Joe Biden apparently saw protest signs on his trip to Michigan:
“Not withstanding some of the signs I saw coming in… that’s why 81 million Americans voted for me. The largest number of votes in American history. A clear majority…"

Not mentioned? His cratering poll numbers, especially among independents voters. So regardless of whatever he wanted people who heard his speech to think, there is election trouble on the horizon for Joe Biden and his party, and they have no one to blame for it but themselves.
