President Donald Trump managed to pull off a win in the early hours of Saturday morning as his nominee for Attorney General, Todd Blanche, was finally confirmed by the Senate.

The final vote was 50-49.
Blanche's confirmation had been up in the air as two Republicans, Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) and Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME), announced their opposition.
But Blanche got some unexpected help, as we reported. Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA) had announced on Friday that he would back Blanche’s confirmation after holding close to the vest how he was going to vote.

Lisa Murkowski Just Reminded Everyone Why Republicans Can Never Count on Her
Although he expressed concerns about the anti-weaponization fund, he argued Blanche would be better than another placeholder in the position.
"Mr. Blanche is not perfect, and he will tell you this. But the choice is not between perfection and Mr. Blanche. It is between Mr. Blanche and another acting attorney general who may not run the department effectively under President Trump, and who indeed may not be as good as Mr. Blanche."
Blanche said he was deeply honored by the trust and confidence from the president and the vote of the Senate. He also thanked the Department of Justice for their hard work to "uphold the law and keep our country safe."
