In this episode of "Schumer's Shutdown™ Holds America Hostage"...
As the government shutdown — AKA "The Schumer Shutdown" — enters its fourth week, the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), the nation's largest federal government employees union, has had enough of the Democrat Party holding the nation hostage.
We'll get to AFGE and its demands momentarily.
Meanwhile, the bitter partisan standoff in Washington continues to cause disruptions across a growing range of public services, putting financial pressure on federal employees, with Senate Minority Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and his comrades continuing to "leverage" them, and others, who are most susceptible to the shutdown — as the Democrats refuse to back down on their push for "free" (taxpayer-funded) healthcare for illegal aliens.

In a statement on Monday, AFGE president Everett Kelley said there is "no clear end in sight" as he demanded the passage of a clean continuing resolution (CR).
Kelley pulled no punches in his statement (emphasis, mine):
This week, Congress pushed our nation into the fourth week of a full government shutdown – an avoidable crisis that is harming families, communities, and the very institutions that hold our country together. Both political parties have made their point, and still there is no clear end in sight.
Today I’m making mine: it’s time to pass a clean continuing resolution and end this shutdown today. No half measures, and no gamesmanship. Put every single federal worker back on the job with full back pay — today.
Yeah, good luck with that.
Schumer and the Democrats have made it all too clear that they're far more interested in exploiting — and pandering to — illegal aliens (and presumably the Hispanic vote) — than in passing a sensible CR and putting the federal government back to work.
Translation: Schumer and the Democrats remain fixated on preventing all things President Donald Trump, presumably because they (falsely) believe the harder they "fight Trump," the more support they'll maintain among rank-and-file Democrat voters — an ill-fated belief that was largely responsible for Trump's decisive win in the 2024 presidential election.
The problem (for Democrats) is they still don't get it — and now, "it" is increasingly causing unnecessary hardships across the country.
Kelley continued, on a real-world basis:
As president of the American Federation of Government Employees, I represent over 800,000 federal and D.C. government workers who serve with pride and professionalism.
They ensure our skies are safe, our veterans receive care, our borders are protected, and our food is inspected. They come from every political background and every corner of this nation. What unites them is a simple belief: that service to country is honorable work.
Today, that belief is being tested. The Army nurse in San Antonio, the TSA officer in Atlanta, the USDA food safety inspector in Iowa, and hundreds of thousands more like them are being asked to keep our country running without the paychecks that keep their own households afloat.
These are patriotic Americans – parents, caregivers, and veterans – forced to work without pay while struggling to cover rent, groceries, gas and medicine because of political disagreements in Washington. That is unacceptable.
Again, this is real-world stuff. The bottom line is Schumer and Democrats — who ironically view themselves as "the party of the working class," among other absurd claims — are more interested in "winning" (beating Trump) than ensuring untold numbers of workers are able to pay their weekly bills.
'The Path Forward for Congress Is Clear'
Kelley laid out three key demands.
It’s long past time for our leaders to put aside partisan politics and embrace responsible government. A strong America requires a functioning government — one that pays its bills, honors its commitments, and treats its workforce with respect by paying them on time.
The path forward for Congress is clear:
- Reopen the government immediately under a clean continuing resolution that allows continued debate on larger issues.
- Ensure back pay for every single employee who has served or been forced to stay home through no fault of their own.
- Work together on a bipartisan basis to address important policy matters like addressing rising costs and fixing the broken appropriations process.
While at some point, the first two bullet points will likely come fruition, the notion of the TDS-riddled Democrat Party — bitterly driven by Schumer, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, left-wing radicals Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortex (D-NY) and Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX), et al. — working with the Republicans in a bipartisan manner is beyond comprehension, given the party's despicable behavior since day one of Trump's second term.
Senate Democrats last week blocked a bill to pay military members, air traffic controllers, and other federal employees still working through the shutdown — preferring to keep them unpaid — again, until illegal aliens are guaranteed taxpayer-funded healthcare.
Moreover, as of this article, Senate Democrats have voted against a clean CR to reopen the government at least twelve distinct times since the shutdown began on October 1.
The Democrat Party: Doing its damnedest to block President Trump, every step of the way.
Editor’s Note: The Schumer Shutdown is here. Rather than put the American people first, Chuck Schumer and the radical Democrats forced a government shutdown for healthcare for illegals. They own this.
