We've got some great news for Americans who are planning Thanksgiving gatherings and dinners with their loved ones: it's going to cost you a lot less this year, even lower than earlier White House estimates.
The 40th annual American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) Thanksgiving dinner survey found that a traditional dinner for ten people this holiday is going to run around $55.18, which is down five percent from the previous year. That counts for the price of items like turkey and cranberries going down, while the price of sweet potatoes and whipping cream went up.

The breakdown is as follows:
The classic Thanksgiving dinner grocery bill is a mixed bag of savings and squeezes. Four of the items dropped in price this year – the main turkey dish, cubed stuffing, fresh cranberries, and dinner rolls. However, five items – sweet potatoes, frozen green peas, a vegetable tray of carrots and celery, whole milk, and whipping cream – rose in price. Pumpkin pie mix and pie shells remained virtually unchanged from 2024.
It also pointed out that while fresh vegetables and sweet potatoes went up in price, several items dropped in cost from 2024.
Several items moved lower in price this year and helped pull down the overall cost of the meal. Dinner rolls are down 14.6%, stuffing is down 9% and cranberries are down 2.8%. Even so, stronger price increases among produce-heavy side dishes kept these items at the center of the overall cost story.

The piece noted that the overall annual cost of a Thanksgiving dinner has marked the third year in a row that prices have dropped. However, it also pointed out that the economic costs are still struggling to even out from the record-high cost of the classic American holiday dinner under former President Joe Biden's presidency in 2022, which was $64.05.
Earlier this month, the White House released data that this year's gobble fest would cost consumers three percent less than last year, RedState reported. So, AFBF's survey puts that even lower.
Which can only equal good news for President Donald Trump and the GOP, given a recent survey found that voters feel Trump's still not doing enough to lower the cost of things, as my RedState colleague Teri Christoph reported.
Christoph wrote that with the midterms coming, it's once again the economy, as a new poll showed that the main issue on the minds of voters is the cost of everything:
Lowering prices: 57%
Controlling immigration: 16%
Reducing crime: 9%
Ending the war between Ukraine and Russia: 7%
Maintaining peace between Israel and Gaza: 6%
Eliminating drug traffic from Latin America: 4%
The report added:
James Carville has always been right: it's the economy, stupid. Americans vote with their pocketbooks. Notably, 62 percent of independents indicate that lower prices should be the issue for the Trump administration. And that means it needs to the issue for anyone hoping to win in 2026.
Spending less money this Thanksgiving is great news and may even help you squash those arguments from liberal relatives claiming he's done nothing to make things more affordable.
