The border crisis has become an even more prominent topic of conversation on the national stage as cities across the country struggle to handle the flow of illegal immigrants and asylum seekers. As local governments grapple with accommodating the arrivals, the White House has failed to implement effective solutions.
An exchange between White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre and a reporter indicated that the Biden administration remains unable – or unwilling – to adequately address the matter. The reporter asked Jean-Pierre asked about House Speaker Kevin McCarthy demanding that any additional funding to Ukraine be tied to congressional action on the border. “Is that something that the White House would consider supporting for a vote on Ukraine funding?” he asked.
Jean-Pierre responded, accusing Republicans of “playing political games.”
Look, I think the American people are fed up. They're fed up of the political games, the political stunts that House Republicans are doing on our national security and also our government.
You have a President who has delivered record funding. Record funding to make sure that we have additional record additional border patrol, federal employees at the border. This is something that he has done and has delivered on. Instead, these extreme House Republicans, what did they do? They just passed two weeks ago a proposed cutting DHS funding by 8%.
They're the ones who are saying that they want to defund DHS. That's what they're saying. Meanwhile, we're trying to do everything that we can to make sure that we deal with what's going on at the border.

The press secretary also argued that there is “bipartisan support” for continuing to fund Ukraine. “Look, this is about freedom and democracy against Russia's invasion, aggression against the Ukrainian people. This is also about protecting our national security as well,” she said.
Contrary to Jean-Pierre’s comments, it is not only Republicans who want more border security. New York City Mayor Eric Adams, a Democrat, has repeatedly criticized President Joe Biden for failing to provide enough support to help the city handle the influx of illegal immigrants and asylum seekers.
Adam’s bruising remarks aimed at the Biden Administration FEMA came during a conference of mayors he’s attending in Washington, D.C., on Friday:
Mayor Adams charged Friday that New York City is getting “destroyed” by the federal government’s failure to contain the nation’s migrant crisis — a thinly-veiled broadside against President Biden delivered just hours before Hizzoner was set to meet with White House officials about the matter.
Adams, who claimed earlier this week that Biden has “failed” the city by not providing more migrant-related financial assistance, leveled the latest jab against the president in remarks at the African American Mayors Association’s annual conference in Washington, D.C.
“The city is being destroyed by the migrant crisis,” said Adams. […]
Referring to other elected officials in New York City, Adams continued: “And none of my folks came to Washington, D.C. to fight for the resources that’s going to undermine every agency in our city.”
Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX) has slammed the White House on numerous occasions over the disaster at the southern border.
While there are many Democrats who are for open borders, others seem to have had a change of heart after having to deal with the consequences of supporting such policies without pushing for actual immigration reform. Perhaps the White House might change the tune as more Democrats join Mayor Adams and Rep. Cuellar in their calls for border security.
