New York City Mayor Eric Adams is speaking out over the immigration crisis that has ravaged his city.
According to the NY Daily News, Adam’s bruising remarks aimed at the Biden Administration FEMA came during a conference of mayors he’s attending in Washington, D.C., on Friday:
Mayor Adams charged Friday that New York City is getting “destroyed” by the federal government’s failure to contain the nation’s migrant crisis — a thinly-veiled broadside against President Biden delivered just hours before Hizzoner was set to meet with White House officials about the matter.
Adams, who claimed earlier this week that Biden has “failed” the city by not providing more migrant-related financial assistance, leveled the latest jab against the president in remarks at the African American Mayors Association’s annual conference in Washington, D.C.
“The city is being destroyed by the migrant crisis,” said Adams. […]
Referring to other elected officials in New York City, Adams continued: “And none of my folks came to Washington, D.C. to fight for the resources that’s going to undermine every agency in our city.”
During previous remarks at NYC city hall, Adams didn’t mince words about who exactly he blames for the crisis–calling out Joe Biden by name:
“The national government has turned its back on New York City,” the mayor said at City Hall. “This is in the lap of the president of the United States.”
The Daily News adds that part of the reason Adams is in D.C. is to attend meetings Friday with White House aides, along with “Drug Enforcement Administration head Anne Milgram, Department of Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and Federal Emergency Management Agency chief Deanne Criswell,” and others. He is not meeting with the president, Adams’ spokesman Fabien Levy said.
NBC News reported on the suggestions Adams has for the Administration:
- Extend temporary protected status
- Provide humanitarian parole for asylum seekers (at the border and in the U.S.)
- Add more U.S. citizenship and immigration officers
In a statement to WNBC, responding to Adams’ criticisms, the White House said, “FEMA is also providing assistance to support the city as it receives migrants and will announce additional funding for receiving cities like New York City in the coming weeks.”
Adams has been critical of the Administration’s inaction on immigration in recent months, once while visiting the border in January. RedState’s Nick Arama wrote:
Adams arrived in El Paso on Saturday and said the flood of illegal aliens across the border was a “national crisis” that demanded a “national solution,” laying the blame squarely at the feet of Joe Biden. He visited the border and a CBP processing center. He immediately showed up Joe Biden’s recent visit by going to a place where illegal aliens cross the border, as well as an area where illegal aliens were sleeping in the city, and speaking with illegal aliens — things that Biden couldn’t be bothered to do.
.@NYCMayor landed in El Paso, Texas tonight to survey the asylum seeker crisis at the southern border.

But it was a different story back in the summer of 2022, as Adams lashed out at Texas Governor Greg Abbott for sending busses full of migrants — who had poured over the border — to New York. And sadly, one thing hasn’t changed for Adams. As my colleague Mike Miller wrote back in August, the Democrat mayor is true to form with his party, and doesn’t seem to understand the problem isn’t “not enough money from the federal government.”
Miller wrote:
The New York Post asked Eric Adams if he has asked or plans to ask Biden or federal agencies to change the open-border policy and stop the endless flow of illegal border crossers from entering the country. “Shockingly,” Adams said he has no interest in doing so.
