We are getting close to a tipping point folks. Some time back, I pointed out that over 100 county sheriff’s in anti-Second Amendment states had declared that they would not follow unconstitutional gun grab legislation then being promulgated in those states. In that article, I wrote of the solid constitutional ground these lawmen stand on.

First of all, the local Sheriffs are on pretty solid Constitutional ground. Have a look at A typical Law Enforcement Oath of Office:
I, _______________, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and maintain the Constitution and laws of the United States, and the Constitution and laws of the state of ______ not inconsistent therewith, and that I will faithfully discharge the duties of my office as _______________, so help me God.
Most State Oaths of Office are pretty close to the above, first addressing fealty to the U.S. Constitution and only after, to the State Constitution and Laws.
At the end of the article, I asked where this might lead, answering with a possible future scenario involving armed conflict with local citizens, backed up by local law enforcement on one side, with state and federal officials on the other.
We just might have taken another step in that direction. As reported earlier by my colleague and good friend Sarah Lee, Virginia has turned completely blue with the Governor and legislature completely in Democrat hands.

Quite predictably, once the leftists got their hands completely on the levers of power in Virginia, they immediately set about as my good friend and colleague Brandon Morse pithily put it
Ralph Northam announced during a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday that now that Virginia’s state government is under complete Democrat control for the first time in a generation, they’re going to take the heavy stick they were just given and begin beating gun owners over the head with it
The local governments in Virginia aren’t taking these threats lightly.

From Culpeper County, Virginia
CULPEPER Co., Va. (WDBJ7) — The Culpeper Board of Supervisors Tuesday discussed an adopted resolution declaring the locality a Second Amendment Constitutional County.
The Board unanimously passed the resolution, joining a growing number of localities in response to expected gun control legislation in the now Democratic-controlled Virginia General Assembly.
Here’s where things go from political statements or possible posturing to something far more serious. The article continues
At the meeting, the local sheriff vowed to deputize scores of residents, if necessary, to push back on potential state-imposed gun restrictions. “Every Sheriff and Commonwealth Attorney in Virginia will see the consequences if our General Assembly passes further unnecessary gun restrictions. “Red Flag” laws without due process will create enormous conflict as well,” Sheriff Scott Jenkins wrote in a Facebook post.

First of all, I’m am very glad to see a duly elected Law Enforcement Official who understands that his first duty is to the Constitution and is willing to stand up for his constituents to secure the blessings of its protections for them. If it ever does come right down to it, it will be elected Sheriffs, State National Guard members and perhaps local militias who uphold their oaths, by standing with the citizenry as they resist Federal and State abuse of God-given liberties.
More important for right now, is my belief that we are moving further along the continuum towards violent conflict between those who value liberty and those who value power control over their fellow humans at the expense of liberty. At this point, it would seem that the only speed bumps we have, are sheriffs who understand their duty, and a President of these United States who is busily emplacing Federal judges who will hopefully uphold the rights of the citizenry. God help us if the Democrats get hold of all the levers of power at the national level. In words I’ve used before…
Culpeper County, Virginia—A cool March morning, 2021, County Sheriff Scott H. Jenkins stood at the head of his Deputies, several of them newly deputized, as they protected the home of Joe Q. Citizen from an unconstitutional raid designed to confiscate Citizen’s guns. “This is an unconstitutional gun-grab measure,” Jenkins said of the state law supposedly authorizing such a raid—a law signed back in 2019 by then Governor Ralph Northam, a Democrat.
