H.P. Lovecraft was a racist.
In a YouTube video I made revolving around the cosmic horror aspects of Christianity, I made a nod to Lovecraft, as what we define as our understanding of the cosmic horror genre today is thanks mostly to him. The Bible is full of cosmic horror elements that even some of my fellow Christians aren't aware of, but thanks to Lovecraft's work, become pretty obvious once you see them.
The response I got from a handful of commenters was the first line you read above. They were appalled that I'd even pay any respect to the father of cosmic horror because of his dislike and distrust of other races outside the white race.
Is it a flaw? Of course it is. Someone's skin color is hardly a good system by which to judge them. Is it an aspect of Lovecraft that deserves any attention?
Sure... because it was an element of his personality that contributed to his writing style, but outside of that, his racism doesn't mean much. His contribution to the world, especially the Western world, was a style of writing and fiction that has entertained, inspired, and defined many works of art of every variety to this day. Say what you will, but he was ultimately a positive force in the universe.
In short, his racism is hardly a defining characteristic of his legacy.
Yet, if you were to ask the Left, it's the only important part about him. He should never be mentioned in any positive way, and if mentioned, it should always be with the asterisk that he was a horrible person because he didn't like people with different melanin levels than him. Failure to do so is a moral failing on the part of the person discussing him.
There's something sinister about it that gets covered up by moral posturing, and that thing is the fact that this deconstruction of a person is less about the person and more about the thing he created. Something that contributed greatly to a culture that has been marked for erasure by ideological radicals on the Left.
The thing is, Lovecraft is only a small piece of the puzzle. There's larger game out there, and deconstructing it is to erode a pillar of Western society.
This was highlighted well by Line Seiche, who covered this very subject recently using Alexander the Great as an example of the Left's deconstruction of Western heroes. As she points out, Alexander was, and remains, one of the most revered heroes of Western culture. What we define as power, heroism, and even peak masculinity in so many regards comes from, at least in many ways, this man.
So how do you destroy a man like this, or more importantly, his legacy?
By highlighting his negative aspects. His ruthlessness, his terrorizing nature, and his paranoia can be used to paint an insecure, cruel man whose accomplishments are treated more like an unfortunate result of someone who should've and would've been stopped far sooner in a more just world.

The man who took after Achilles and whose actions were so consequential that they would echo for eternity. He was a man who was so important to the world that his arrival, his rise, and his fall were foretold in the Bible in Daniel 10. Few figures in history are as important as Alexander.
In life, he was undefeatable. Even in death, his impact couldn't be reduced, and few historical figures could ever outmatch it without being an actual deity. To truly kill him, you'd have to wait till he was long dead, then proceed to erode his reputation by exaggerating the wrong aspects of him to the ignorant who live in a different time, and force them to look at the figure through a one-sided modern moral lens.
Over time, you can reduce one of the most powerful and consequential people the world has ever known, and one who helped lay the foundations of the Western world as we know it, into a cowardly villain who is worthy of nothing but spite at worst, and being forgotten at best.
And if he can be reduced to that status, then how does that reflect on the West, which holds this man in such high regard?
This kind of deconstruction is a knife in the dark. It's not a fair treatment or a fair fight. It's not meant to be. The purpose isn't to debate the merits of the man; it's to use him as a tool to destroy something greater.
This is ideological combat through cowardly tactics. Dishonest discourse meant to erode, not just a civilization, but a people into a villain status they don't deserve.
The best defense against this isn't argument, although argument is necessary. The best defense is a real education. It's making sure the ignorant are fewer in number than the informed.
Sadly, this is easier said than done. As I've talked about previously, the modern education system is more geared toward creating more ignorant people than educated ones. Our education system needs a vast overhaul, but that's a different article.

Just know that they aren't here to fight fair, and they're not interested in debate. They want to destroy your civilization and replace it with their own, which means that they need to come for the people who helped build it.
But make no mistake. Ultimately, their goal is to destroy or subjugate you.
