Every election, you hear a cacophony of Democrats tell everyone, with loud, proud, and booming voices, that if a Republican wins, then they're leaving the country!
Then a Republican wins, and most of them stay exactly where they are. They grumble all the louder, but regardless, they don't call the U-Haul. Foreign countries like those in Europe or the U.K. aren't exactly swimming with American leftists. They're fortunate to just be swimming in migrants from countries that actually embrace their evil and are easily identifiable, not leftists who cover it up with $10 college words.
Yet, leftists hate it here. They think other countries are better than ours. They love to compare the U.S. to other nations and their successes in infrastructure and healthcare all the time. Their characterizations are not necessarily true. Most of them are fairy tales they heard from the media and word of mouth from other leftists, but they believe in these grand stories so much that they proclaim others have achieved Utopia while we lag far behind.
My colleague Becky Noble recently reported on a poll, the Elon University/YouGov America 250 National Survey, where people were asked if there was a country people would rather live in. As you can imagine, conservatives were largely happy to stay put, but those on the left weren't so patriotic:
Of those polled, 55 percent of Democrats answered "yes" to the question “Is there any other country on Earth you would rather live in than the United States today?” Rounding out the numbers, 38 percent of Independents said yes, and 10 percent of Republicans.
Noble adds an additional piece of information, which I think is highly telling:
The new poll reflects the results of a September 2025 Gallup poll, which showed that Democrats were the only partisan group that viewed socialism more favorably than capitalism.

None of you is likely surprised by this. Democrats complain about America constantly. They proclaim to hate it because it's guilty of X, and Y, and it has a lot of Z problems too, and it's all compounded by the fact that we have a leader in the White House who blatantly doesn't follow the arbitrary guidelines of what it is to be a "good guy" that they make up depending what's politically convienient for them in the moment.
They would much rather be somewhere else! Somewhere more enlightened! Somewhere that's gotten beyond all the problems America suffers from.
So why don't they leave and go somewhere better?
They do.
They go to red states.
According to the AEI, when Democrats make their states way too much like the foreign Utopias they long for, they leave for the states that still have American ways of life, values, and economics. They settle in, then they proceed to virtue signal their way back into the problem they just left. One big example is poor Arizona:
Arizona was long a reliably Republican state, with strong conservative leanings rooted in its libertarian ethos, rural demographics, and historical figures like Barry Goldwater.
However, demographic shifts, including the California migration, appear to be transforming it into a purple swing state.
In 2020, Joe Biden won Arizona by about 10,000 votes, marking the first Democratic presidential victory there since 1996.
By 2024, Donald Trump reclaimed the state, but the intervening years saw extraordinary Democratic gains in statewide offices.
As per the usual, Democrats don't actually believe in the virtue they're signaling. They want everyone else to see them believing it. They want their peers to pat them on the back and see them as one of the good ones. One of the smart ones that've figured it out, and have the "bravery" to say so. They want to sit at cocktail parties and social gatherings and display their worldliness and intelligence, their compassion and progressive thinking.
Then, when all of that destroys their city and state, they move on to greener pastures to live in the successes of a country they claim is backward and evil.
It's all a show. If you were to tell them to name the country they'd rather live in and then tell them they now had to live there, the vast majority of them would lose it. They'd rage and rant, stomp their feet, and scream. They wouldn't want to leave the U.S., they love it here, they just can't admit it. Not to their friends and definitely not to themselves.
Besides, if they were actually put into a country that followed their rules, they wouldn't be the enlightened intellectuals in the room anymore. They'd have no virtues to signal anymore. No one would pat them on the back for being so daring. They'd have to live with what they chose for the first time in their lives.
And I can guarantee that wouldn't be any fun for them.
