I can imagine Democrat strategists are throwing files and paperwork against the wall in frustration as their best laid plans continue to turn up nothing in terms of a political or cultural pendulum swing.
The old way doesn't seem to be working for them anymore, and in so many more ways than one. I've covered relentlessly how I think the collapse of what is considered the "mainstream media" has completely upended the Democrat playbook. Without the ability to guide the narrative and keep problematic facts and testimonies out of the public eye, the cultural landscape is shifting like two tectonic plates slamming into one another.

But buried within the aforementioned "old way" is a way of thinking that, to be honest, is older than any Democrat is willing to admit. It's what speechwriter Michael Gerson called "the soft bigotry of low expectations," or what it boils down to when you strip out the fancy wordage, "racism."
Just like the Democrats of old, the Democrats of today believe they "own" minorities; it just looks a lot different than it did in the 1800s. The idea now is that if they want to control them, they just ragebait and fearmonger. If they want to control minorities, they just have to find a way to make anything they don't like sound racist and dangerous.
It doesn't even have to make sense. Joe Biden famously told a room full of black people back in 2012 that Mitt Romney wanted to deregulate Wall Street, and followed it up with "They're going to put y'all back in chains."
Insanely loaded and made no sense at all on a racial level, but Democrats could do that because the only people around to call them out were being censored and silenced on everything but talk radio and Fox News. Not ever discussed by any of these media sources was the racist nature of these kinds of statements. It's manipulative and preys on prejudices that they helped foster and develop.
Then, thanks to Elon Musk's purchase of Twitter and its conversion into X, the information landscape shifted dramatically, and suddenly, the narratives are collapsing left and right. Minority communities, especially the black community, are seeing just how useless — if not outright damaging — the Democrats have been.
The collapse is bearing fruit. As my colleague Nick Arama wrote on Tuesday, minority groups are showing outright favorability toward Voter ID laws even though Democrats have been trying to fearmonger about it to the black community since its inception. As Arama showed in her post, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) attempted to link it to Jim Crow, which is trying to manipulate the black community at best.
But the black community largely wants Voter ID laws:
Enten said support for voter ID has been "north of 75 percent" for years. Indeed, in 2025, it was 83 percent. I don't think you have 83 percent agreement on almost anything, so that's phenomenal support.
Democrats also largely support it, he explained, polling at 71 percent. Republicans are at 95 percent.
Even if you break it down by race, the majority still support it, with white people at 85 percent, Latinos at 82 percent, and black people at 76 percent.

The crazy thing about this is the fact that even a majority of Democrat voters want Voter ID laws.
To be sure, leftists are more than willing to reinforce the Democrats' preloaded assumptions about their own base, but clearly, in this instance, many of them aren't going along with it.
Not only do they not think it's racist to ask for ID to vote, but the black community also doesn't seem to think it is either.

Did the Democrats see this coming? Judging by the surprised tone of the CNN report, no. They've been trying to spread the idea that things like the SAVE Act were so close to laws you'd find in Nazi Germany that they might as well slap a swastika on it, and doing so for so long that they likely thought they'd have made some progress.
But their own bigotry corrupted their own expectations. Their own bomb is blowing up in their face.
It's beautiful to watch.
