It’s effectively trying to stop mosquitos from getting into your yard by putting up a chainlink fence.

The collapse is happening faster and faster. First, there was resistance from a populace that consistently disproved the mask narrative when mandates first began. Over time, those people were called all sorts of names including being pegged with the accusation that they were anti-science. Instead of making people back down, it only reinforced their desire to go maskless. It wasn’t long before red state governors began tossing away state-level mandates.

Still, Democrats held firm that masks were the key to stopping the virus even as the virus rampaged throughout blue states where mask mandates were the norm.

I’d like to tell you it wasn’t long before Democrats began getting real about the mask issue, but I can’t. Despite all the evidence mounting against them, they held firm to the mask narrative like it was a floating piece of flotsam in the middle of the ocean. Funny enough, it was in complete denial of the science they claimed to obey. A November study from Yale, Standford, and others found that the cloth masks we wear reduced infections by only five percent while surgical masks only reduced infections by 11 percent. Slightly better odds but not exactly good.

It wasn’t until much later that leftists began admitting what was already pretty obvious to everyone else. In December of last year, Leana Wen, CNN’s resident medical expert, finally said that masks were essentially “facial decoration.”

Unless you were wearing an N95 mask, you were pretty much just pretending. Again, this was something the majority of us already knew, yet still, the mandates continued.

Now, it appears the mask-centered safety theater is becoming more of a liability than it is a boon. The fear that Democrats used to enforce the mandates has worn off, and it doesn’t help that they overplayed their hand by forcing the children to wear them at schools. Angry parents are quickly becoming the Democrat party’s greatest fear, having already cost them a state governorship in Virginia.

Blue state governors are now backing away from mask mandates in schools despite the Biden White House maintaining that mask mandates are necessary. The narrative is apparently not worth their political careers, and they’ve decided that losing a game of political chicken is worth maintaining office.

These governors won’t be the last either. As midterms get closer and the mandates become liabilities, you’re going to see these Democrats so loyal to “the science” they beat everyone over the head with will suddenly go back on their firmly held beliefs. Masks will be some of the first to go.

In the end, the people who have been pointing out that the masks are nonsensical will be proven right, but the left will never admit this. They’ll continue to proclaim that these “RepubliQans” are science-denying conspiracy theorists. They’ll say that the masks actually helped in eliminating the virus from the populace, which they’ll hand over credit to every blue state governor and the Biden administration for doing.

It’ll all be a lie, of course. The virus will never truly disappear, but it will have become so inconsequential due to it doing what most viruses do, become more infectious while becoming less destructive. It’ll be passed off as the common cold, and to be honest, they wouldn’t be that far off.

But the mask should always be a black mark on the history of Democrats. It’s a perfect example of how they utilized fear and punishment to enforce their will on the people despite it being completely ineffective in stopping what they said would kill us all. People have been fined, arrested, removed, and physically assaulted over not pretending along with the Democrat narrative and we should never forget this as a society.
